Okay its a non horsey subject but I need advice. Okay here it goes..

There has been a tom cat that visits our street and has done for about 3 years, at first i hardly seen it, but just after Christmas its in the street alot, i see it every day now,I thought it had a home but apparently its ferel, it's also a bit on the skrawny side with a few old scars on his face, dirty....and still has his 'dangly bits'. Problem is its a bad tempered, horrible cat; it attacks the other cats in the street, it wees and poos in the gardens...I've never known anything to smell so strong! It also impregnates this young queen down the street all the time (for the past 3 years, its fathered all her litters), the owner of the queen really should get her spayed anyway but alot of the time she has her head in the clouds and has a head full of sawdust to be honest. Apart from this, the tom has also attacked an elderly person who lives down the street, its just not a popular cat. However the other day it walked up to me in the street and sat in front of me looking at me as if it wanted some affection (I didnt touch it though). Despite what it does I feel sorry for it as this could of been prevented if it had a decent home, I was thinking of contacting the RSPCA or something but i think they will just put it down with it being bad tempered or say its not their problem. What do you think??

Contact the RSPCA. His behaviour is just typical of a tom cat. They will neture him and take it from there. Better for the RSPCA to get involved than someone taking the matter in to their own hands and possibly dealing with him in a manner that is unspeakable.

I wouldn't bother with the RSPCA to be honest, after personal experiences with them. Try the Cats Protection League, or a local animal rescue centre, they can trap and neuter him which will stop his bad behaviour, and if the worst comes to the worst pts, which might be a kinder option if he isn't faring too well.

Contact the Cats Protection League (not the RSPCA)
The Cats Protection League will help you to trap the cat and take it away to be neutered and rehomed.

Please visit their website www.cats.org.uk. They are your best bet.

Good luck! Poor cat!

I would 2nd the CPL or the Blue Cross I would NOT contact the RSPCA as they will just have it PTS and it's not really the cat's fault at the end of the day. It needs neutering and that may well improve its behaviour.

We recently got a cat from the Blue Cross as our previous stable cat died (old age). We got an ex stray from them who sound slike he was maybe similar (although only a couple of years old). He was a tom cat when they took him in and they had him neuteured. He seems to be making an ideal stable cat as is quite territorial, he was quite aggressive to start with although very friendly he was inclined to bite and scratch a bit. He is slowly learning that's not acceptable. He comes running when he sees our car coming, he follows us to feed the horses, plays chase with the dog (not sure he wants to do that but he keesp encouraging her) and all in all is a good cat. I fera had he been picked up by the RSPCA instead they would have deemed him not suitable for rehoming and would have had him PTS.

So, I would give this one a chance - he is more likely agressive due to being entire and territorial but may well come around if given a chance.

Good luck!

I found the RSPCA to be really helpful when it came to picking up 3 kittens and a mum, and two male strays on 3 different occasions, from my old neighbourhood, they came in an hour or so. I would also tell them to knock on the womans door who needs her cat spaying! Perhaps they can offer advice, she may be able to get it done for free.:)

The RSPCA are not taking in any cats at the moment as their centres are full! Unless he's injured or at deaths door they won't touch him. CPL or local cat charity will help trap him, get him neutered if nothing else.

I find it so sad that centres are full to bursting point with unwanted animals :( I will always get future pets from a rescue, no matter how strict their re-homing policies are. Wish I could have them all.

definitely need the CPL.They are brilliant and really helpful. It sounds to me as if the stray is either struggling to find food or else has some medical issues as to why he is thin. It really annoys me how people abandon cats or just don't bother to have tom cats neutered. I have 5 cats, all of them spayed or neutered. My one and only male cat got attacked last year which resulted in an abscess from the bite which then rapidly became a nasty fibrosarcoma meaning that he is on borrowed time.If people had taken care of their cats in the first place then mine may not have the health issue he has now.Oops...sorry ranting there lol. Anyhow definitely get in touch with CPL as it sounds like the stray has health issues of some kind.He may have damaged teeth which is why he is thin and definitely needs to see a vet for a good check over and the snip.

Another vote for CPL! We had a tom cat that used to come in the yard and chase our (spayed!) females and we did manage to somehow catch him and took him to the local CPL place and they were super.

Forget the RSPCA IMO: he'll do far better with the CPL, all he needs is a good bath and his pockets picking and he'll probably turn out OK!!

CPL are a joke when it comes to ferals!! They have told us it a wild animal & at most they will assist with the cost of neutering, but MUST release it back in the area they get it from. They also wont supply us with traps :S Do they expect us to pick it up??

We have one around us that has cost us £300 in vet bill with our own cats in the last month, along with attacking one of our golden retrievers last year & coming through our cat flap (chasing one of our cats) & then coming to attack us. Its a nasty sod that needs a bullet! (never thought id say that, but our animals come before it & technically it is vermin). It is also the father to 3litters in the last year to the same female feral in the area, but she seems to live in harmony with our 6!

The only people interested in 'saving' it are a local charity who have supplied us with a trap. But it seems to know what they are & we havent caught it yet.

(sorry for the rant its a sore subject for us at the moment)

couldnt edit post above want to add the below as my previous post has made me sound like a right cow:

just realised its made me sound like a serious animal hater! which im definately not, just seriously sick of this cat causing us so many problems & make our & our cats life miserable. We cant even allow our cats to be out overnight with fear of them getting attacked. & its been going on for months as we cant seem to trap him :( & hardly anyone wants to help us
