You say the kids can stay at home now while you do horses. I'm assuming this is while you do just a quick check over / feed etc and not for riding? If so, I wouldn't hesitate to go to the new field. If they're living out, the fact you'd have to wait for your OH to get home isn't that big a deal and if you did have to go down earlier, taking your youngest with you wouldn't be too difficult. You could even rope them into helping and get it done more quickly!

It sounds like a lovely setup and I'd be jumping at the chance if it were me.

Yeah only for checking and feeding etc. I don't ride until my OH is home.
My youngest is great at helping out but he is allergic to the horses so doesn't spend a great deal around them

If you're there late, could you team up with other liveries so they can do earlier checks and you could do later ones? We do this at our yard to make sure the horses are checked twice a day in Summer even if we can only get there once. In winter we have a turn out / bring in rota.

I suppose it's not the sort of thing you know you can do until you're there so you can't guarantee it but I'm sure most owners would be happy to have some sort of reciprocal arrangement.

Thank you all for your replies.
I've decided to take the field 😬
The thought of moving and having a new routine is scary but I'm sure it will be better in the long run 🤞
Pic 1 & 2 are of my current field and the rest are my new one.
I have a track around my current Field but the new one is waaaayy to long, I will need a ridiculous amount of posts! It's about 3 times the length of my current one.

Any suggestions of how to fence it? Fencing is the bain of my life 🤦🏼‍♀️

It looks lovely.

If it's too big to track (although I might be tempted to invest in the fence posts if you're going to be there a while) I'd split it into 2/3 and 1/3. Keep 2/3 for winter and 1/3 for summer. Strip graze in early winter while there's still a decent amount of grass but rather than moving the strip, just keep opening up more of the field until the whole thing is open for the rest of the winter. I'd then strip graze in summer but move the fence behind them too so the grass has the opportunity to re-grow.

if you do bite the bullet to and track it, I'd have them round the outside in summer and then in the middle in winter - strip grazing as necessary to begin with as above.
