Forgot to say... I would inspect for damage! Didn't have a chance with Mr Cob sadly as he had already continued galloping for his life before I picked myself up off the floor.

Scares the pants off me the number of horses I see on our roads with no knee boots......we have very worn road surfaces as it's a tourist area and 4 horses from my yard went down within 2 months of me moving there :(.
They DID all laugh at my Westropp knee/brushing boots the first time I hacked out from the yard..........funnily enough nearly everyone now has them !
Seriously.....£24.99......or vet bill £££££....they take 5 seconds to put on (a bit like Hi Viz!)

Agree 100% jnb can't believe the chances people take with their horse's legs. Never hack without my knee brushing boots.

After reading all of this I will definitely be investing in a pair.
I never used to hack much at all so never really thought of buying any and never had this happen to me (touches wood) but now we have been turned into happy hackers due to horses medical reasons so will most definitely be investing in a pair!

We always wear brishing boots and like people have said it is better to pay out £25 on some than £££££ on a vet bill and ending up with an injured horse!

^^ ~This. I don't like riding on the roads, but a pair of Westropps is very reassuring! They do look odd but I don't care! :D

Westropps all the way for me and they last years too. Two weeks ago I was leading my 29 year old out on the road to go and find some grass when she lost grip behind and down she went on her poor old knees and nose. We couldn't have been going any slower or we'd have been going backwards. Her Westropps protected her and she got up and continued with no harm done. I've never understood why people don't routinely put knee boots on either. I consider them part of my tack. You wouldn't leave home without a girth after all.
