You were travelling behind a horse trailer (going VERY slowly) and could see that the horse kept losing his balance & falling over in the trailer?

This happened to me this afternoon

I tried to make the driver pull over but I think the poor lady thought I was gesticulating at her because she was going so slowly.

I eventually drove up alongside her & tried to explain but I had a queue of angry drivers up my ass all beeping their horns and waiting to overtake so I had to pull in infront of her. I briefly considered leaving her to it as she was going ver slowly so I figured she must know.

Fortunately we came to some lights that went red so I jumped out & went to explain. Poor woman, she was having a hell of a time of it - she had no idea why horsey was doing this & had never done it before, hence why she was doing about 20mph.

Thank god though she only had another mile or so to get home.

I felt like I was interfering a bit, but it was awful watching poor hoss scrabbling around.

would there be any reason for this? the road was quite straight.

I would have done exactly what you did, and I'd hope anyone following us with the trailer would let us know if something like that happened.
 
I followed a trailer and it had a wheel about to come off. I overtook and managed to stop them but the elderly lady who I recognised as a local riding school owner said it had been like that for months!
They carried on but I wouldn't have put a horse in it, the wheel was wqobbling in and out like a mad thing...
 
Merlin did this on Wednesday last week.... we only went a few miles to the local common, but he spent the whole time scrabbling around like he had jelly legs..... when we got there he had half pulled off a shoe!!!

Im not sure why he does this... but used to travel fine till about a year ago

We once followed a trailer where the horse had got its tail over the top, it's bandage had come off (we stopped to pick it up) and the other horse was tied too loose and kept biting the one with its tail over. It was a single track road so couldn't do anything until they stopped and I was able to get out and tell them (and give them their bandage back).
 
i would have said something also, you could not guarantee they are aware as they dont have the view you would
if it were me driving and you came and told me i would appreciate it, even if i knew its still nice that people ask and check imo, some may not take to it kindly but i think most would be happy
 
I once passed a traveller pony grazing on the side of the road, kept going and along the road there was a trail of straw and drag marks. A few miles later I stopped at traffic lights and was behind a van with a trailer with the ramp open. I got out and told them that the ramp was open, they then asked where was the pony?

I asked them was it a little piebald cob, which I'd passed earlier, which it was. Poor pony had fallen out of the back of the box!

They then hiked up the ramp, tied it up with a bit of rope and flew back down the road to collect the pony

I would be very grateful if someone told me something was wrong even if I already knew - you did the right thing.

No idea why a horse would suddenly start doing that unless it had just hurt itself and couldn't put weight on leg or something

My boy did this last week - though not while moving at any speed. We were just driving out of the lorry park and he started banging about in the lorry. Looked in and he was practically on his knees. Usually he loads first and is an angel but this time he was loaded last and i think he just didn't have anything to lean on! Obviously has rubbish balance. Sometimes they just get used to where they usually travel. Maybe this horse is used to having a companion to lean on! My friend's horse always clatters around and nearly falls when going round a corner depending on what side of the trailer he's on - so if he's on the right he falls round left corners and vice versa. He's better with a friend to lean on tho.
At least in a trailer you can see if a horse is having trouble. I would have told them too and would have appreciated it if it was me. You did the right thing

You definitely did the right thing and I have to say that I am always quite relieved if someone is following me so they can see if something awful has happened that I am unaware of and stop me to tell me.

I once drove off from a PC rally and had a person tailing me, overtake and stop me because I had left the top door of the front ramp open

i was coming back from collecting some horses one time and some motorists were honking their horms at my, i thought it was because we werent going fast enough for their liking, next day i realised it was probably then that the jockey wheel cam loose and fell off, it was prob. rolling down the road behind us
