What would you do in this scenario?...BE HONEST

Thanks Shilasdair Nice of you to think of me. Oh and while you are doing so please take into account that today would have been my daughter Natasha's birthday, she is the one I lost to cancer at the age of twelve, but then you and some others will probably think this is funny as well.

Now hang on right there, before spouting off about people who you know nothing about

I lost my husband to cancer 4 1/2 years ago and have had nothing but support from people on here when I have needed it. So don't you dare come on here and say that some others will probably think this is funny as well
mad.gif

I don't really care what your views are of people on here but DO NOT say things like this
mad.gif

You never get over losing someone but that still doesn't give her the right to make assumptions about the people on here. God damn its not often I get mad but how dare she

for the mares safety and my own as well (as from the view i couldnt affford expensive injuries to the other horses) i would have him shot there and then if he was so violent.
i wouldnt even attempt to go in the calm him if he was acting like that its not worth the risk.what can i do to defend myself against a half ton horse if another horse has been pinned down by him?
even if he did calm before the marksman came i wold still have him pts, turning on horses like that is totally abnormal and you would never be able to trust it again and i wouldnt want his any more of his foals either.

Shoot it.

No hang on maybe Im wrong. Maybe the answer is to invite him in to watch cartoons and talk about his problems.

Oh hang on we're on about a dangerous animal NOT a 10year old kid. If my life or my other animals' lives depended on it I wouldn't hesitate to shoot the animal if I had the ability.

Well I am not sure if the stallion bred any as that he did not mention. I would assume it is a good possibility. The foals from him would be 08 foals so will let you all know if I find anything out. I will ask more questions about what they thought triggered him too the next time I speak with this man.

I was not there so only have his story to judge by and I have to admit that with the severity of the events I was told the stallion was best shot at that moment. It possibly saved some mares not to mention any people trying to help.

If they had darted him out in that big field I am not sure how they would have drug him out to another area. And even then...do what with him? Keep him locked up in a stall until he is gelded?

I have had a few horses suddenly awake under sedation. I know for a fact my vet would not have touched him with a ten foot pole.
I know there was little time to react, but considering the story of how it all occured I have to say that I am at peace with the mans decision.

His horses are very expensive and they are his sole livleyhood. He cares a great deal for them as well and has a kind heart. I doubt he would do this on a whim

TBH, I don't think ANY of us on here would know about LC's daughter..and i'm sure none of us would find it amusing either..

I knew, and I'm sure others do too. However why in the world Linda would say that others might think this is funny seems totally warped to me.

I would go into my house, get my shotgun and slug-shots and once I had a clear shot, I would shoot the stallion.

If I had a shot gun, I would do the same.

Funny how the majority of you say shoot him straight away without knowing why this horse went Beserk in the first place.

who cares why its gone beserk!! FACT is its gone berserk and is hell bent on killing anything in its path. id have shot it to.

Custardsmum: We all deal with grief differently, my way is to keep myself occupied anyway I can, and if I can help someone else along the way all the better.
Christiamas: I am not being warped some people have been descending into making personal attacks on me. Oh and I didn’t actually have a dog shot for worrying a pony, the shot wasn’t meant to hit the dog, it was fired as a warning to frighten it off, and it wasn’t the shot that killed the dog it was the filthy neglected state of the dog as the owner didn’t groom it a hair went just under the skin of the dog and became infected it only died through the neglect of the dog owner, and you know that I didn’t fire the shot as I didn’t want it hit it was an accident in the dark. The judge accepted and ruled that it was an accident on our part and not intended to kill.
JingleBellJade and Shilasdair I except that you may not have known about my daughter, but to my knowledge a lot of people on here do. I am sorry if I offended anyone with what I said and I have privately emailed some of you to say so. Can we now please stop the nasty nit picking, it would be best for all. If anyone wants to continue having a go at me for any reason then please do so by private email from now on so innocent people don’t get caught in the crossfire. Thank you

you would need a rifle to get a good shot in...a shotgun would be a bit "hit or miss"...pardon the pun!!

Sorry but it wouldn't. Moi has won many trophies for my shotgun skills.

Aim for the heart to bring the animal down and then once on the ground one more slug in the head - hey presto! No different from killing any other large animal with slugs. I have a rifled barrel on my pump-action 12 gauge Remington - not sure you would be particularly safe to fire slugs through a smooth barrel, it's more for buckshot and suchlike and wouldn't do a very clean job.

well...i WAS trying to save folk from the details...trying to put forward the idea of a single shot kill...

hey-ho......

TBH, if that stally was here he'd be receiving the same solution that you have offered Tia....

Tia, Merrill got a new rifle this year, a Remington 30-06 semi automatic. I think 4 bullets fit in the chamber at once but I may be wrong. It even has a nice scope

There is a firing range outdoors anout a minutes walk from my front door

I am going to have some fun shooting it before he kills me with it

You can kill your own horses in the US. Happens to bad horses regularly!!!

If I was in the situation Jade described and had a gun to hand I would do exactly the same as Tia and others, in North America, or the UK.

Right then.........would people's reaction be the same if it had been a Bull going beserk, or a dog, in a park?

Not so much the shoot on the spot with the dog, but if it chased and attacked a child and then went on to savage other dogs, would you be up for giving it another chance? Or taking it on a one way trip to the Vet no ifs and buts?

Without a shadow of a doubt - forget the going on to savage other dogs. If any of my dogs EVER showed ANY sign of being aggressive towards a child they would be up at the vets before their little paws touched the ground.

I have a Lakeland Terrier who is an absolute darling, but I was very upset when he growled at my niece last Easter, as was she. My other dog is a Pointer who I have never heard growl at anything, she just looks sorry to have been in the way when she's trodden on or has her tail pulled. My Lakie turned and growled at my niece when she crawled over to him when he was asleep and fell on top of him to give him a hug.

It was enough for me to consider his future - as he didn't actually do any more than growl, he's still with us, but I would never trust him with small children - especially if, like my niece, they know nothing of dogs.

I am with the 'shoot it immediately' mindset, could not bear to have my precious mares hurt.

Linda, I read your post with astonishment, I am sincerely sorry for the loss of your child, I honestly cannot think of a worse pain, it is just not right to watch your child die and I truly feel for you.

However - I too fail to see what relevance it has to this thread and feel that the way you randomly attacked members of this forum is not acceptable, people on this forum offer support constantly and I can guarantee not one of them would find your circumstances funny in any way.

Well you didn't PM me (thankfully) - do bear in mind before you make such warped accusations in the future that Shilasdair is a friend of mine

Oh here we go again - everybody attack this woman YET again. This is really getting quite tiresome. I would do what she said initially. I would want to know WHY this horse got like this. As usual, most of you couldn't give a s*it about WHY's, just quick fixes. I had a rig once, he jumped into my other field with my gelding and mare and went ballistic. He was attacking the hell out of my gelding and frantically trying to mount my mare but almost tripping her over flat in the process. He had never been agressive towards me but I guarantee he would have been had I tried to get near him in that situation. We were lucky and managed to split them off and shut the gelding and mare away from him without any of us getting too near him. If that hadn't worked then we would have probably got the jeep out and bloody well herded them up that way!

In the situation with this stallion - I likely would have tried a few vehicles to herd up the mares and hopefully split the stallion off from them. I'd at least have tried. Then I'd get the gelding doped and gelded ASAP. If still no improvement and all other methods had been tried - only then would I even think about ending it. But it is of course, very different in the actual situation, being there and seeing it happening. If the stallion was really going for my mares and I was fearing for their lives then I guess the only option is the quickest - ie. killing him. Although, extremely sad if it was to save the lives of the mares then it would have to be done.
