Last Tuesday Jamin was kicked in the field. I brought her out of the field and there was a small amount of heat in her off hind but no immediate lameness. I asked the lady who was going down to the stables later that day if she wouldnt mind checking her hind legs again. She text me to say no heat but slightly lame but ok in herself. Next day I went down and brought Jamin out of the field. She couldnt flex her near hind (different leg to what I originally thought) at all but was bearing weight and seemed happy in her self so I cold hosed her leg and turned her back out. Next day she trotted over to the gate but was obviously still lame. This has continued. I have given her bute over the last few days and she has slight flexion back but still very lame. My Mum who is an old horse veteran thinks that the pain is in her back rather than her leg as there is no heat or obvious injury. My mum and the other lady (another horsey veteran) have advised I give her a week to see if she settles down. My main concern is Jamins age as she is 27. I rode her on the monday and she was very fresh so we did lots of transition and circle work to try and regain attentiveness and control. Could I possibly have done her harm? I didnt work her any harder than usual and she wasnt at all sweaty.
Its nearly been a week so am thinking maybe I should call the vet?? Thing is, money is very tight and although I would never begrudge Jamin the vetinary care she may need, would I be over reacting calling the vet out?
Advice appreciated
