Last Tuesday Jamin was kicked in the field. I brought her out of the field and there was a small amount of heat in her off hind but no immediate lameness. I asked the lady who was going down to the stables later that day if she wouldnt mind checking her hind legs again. She text me to say no heat but slightly lame but ok in herself. Next day I went down and brought Jamin out of the field. She couldnt flex her near hind (different leg to what I originally thought) at all but was bearing weight and seemed happy in her self so I cold hosed her leg and turned her back out. Next day she trotted over to the gate but was obviously still lame. This has continued. I have given her bute over the last few days and she has slight flexion back but still very lame. My Mum who is an old horse veteran thinks that the pain is in her back rather than her leg as there is no heat or obvious injury. My mum and the other lady (another horsey veteran) have advised I give her a week to see if she settles down. My main concern is Jamins age as she is 27. I rode her on the monday and she was very fresh so we did lots of transition and circle work to try and regain attentiveness and control. Could I possibly have done her harm? I didnt work her any harder than usual and she wasnt at all sweaty.

Its nearly been a week so am thinking maybe I should call the vet?? Thing is, money is very tight and although I would never begrudge Jamin the vetinary care she may need, would I be over reacting calling the vet out?

Advice appreciated :o

Hi, i think it may be time to call the vet. Youve given it time to settle and it hasnt, she may have pulled something riding its hard to tell. Its doesnt sound age related thogh as you say shes lame rather than stiff.
Hope shes feeling better real soon.:)

how is jam last time i spoke to you she had been kicked but you wasnt to worried you was just thinking she would be ok walking it off. have you had the vet?

I went down on the Monday to see how she was before calling the vet and she was only slightly lame so gave it another day and she seemed fine. Am keeping an eye on her though as the field is just mud and chances are she is bound to pull something. She has also dropped a bit of weight due to this awful weather. Old age has made her a wimp! lol x

Don't know if you vet is like mine but she is happy for me to call her if I have a concern and will give me advise over the phone free of charge.
