hi :)
a "stray" dog has been turning up at the yard for a few weeks (since yard dog came in season) i have seen this dog quite a few times (for at least the past year) pestering the bitch on the yard down the road ,they just kept chasing it

its a lovely dog colie/german shepard type and was constantly running down/back & fwd over a 60mp country road ,he has turned up every day for the past few weeks and people are constantly stopping trying to catch him or calling in asking if its ours

today i'd had enough of it as its obvious it is being let out in the morning and goes home at night and belongs to some iresponsible idiot, so i set aside my day to catch him today and rang the dog warden ,he was taken into kennels and i was made to feel really guilty for putting him on death row so to speak

but a = he was going to get knocked over/bumped and i felt it was better for him to be pts (if it came to that) than to be possibly bumped on the road and starving to death under a hedge
b= he was going to catch the bitch/cause a general nusance

owner turned up at 5pm shouting the odds(its normally home by 3pm) were was his dog (it had no collar or micro c) the dogs been put up in private kennels costing a fortune and he can't get it back until next tuesday ,god knows how much that will cost :p

hopefully he will have learnt a lesson and keep it in now ,but if it turns up again would it be wasting the dog wardens time to ring them again ?
would you ring them again , i know were he lives now and could just take the dog home but why should i :(
is there anything else i can do as i think after a few weeks he'll just let it out again ,he is pretty aggressive (owner) and is not happy and is blaming us for having a bitch in season :(

i did suggest buying a collar for it but he wasn't having it ,then suggested a micro chip and wasn't happy about that either

Well where has the owner been up to now? I would be very cross he is continueing to let his dog roam. It is not wasting the dog wardens time-once he knows the owner her can give them a *******ing.

How are you supposed to know if the dog has a home if it has no tags or chip  Is he going to pay for an abortion if his dog catches your bitch?

Keep reporting/calling the dog warden out. He'll probably get sick of paying the fees and keep the dog in

What a ******! I would have done exactly as you have, someone needs to act responsibly (and it sure ain't him) by the sounds of it, he needs to learn a damn lesson in regard to allowing his dog to roam around causing potential accidents to the dog it's self or others and pestering restrained/contained dogs, the gormless get! (him) not the dog:p
Keep calling the dog warden and learn the owner a lesson, soon he will get sick of getting him out and will learn to keep the dog in.

owner has just been happily letting his dog wonder about :(
it must have been going on years ,the yard next door lost there bitch in the spring and apparently it was always there bothering her ,so now its started coming along here

he (owner) called in on way back from next door on the of chance we'd seen it so he must have known it comes over this way

i will continue to catch it/ring the dog warden if i see it again ,although next time i won't tell him iv'e seen it :(
he doesn't deserve to have it ,its such a lovely dog :(

hopefully it will cost him a fortune
how much is private kennels per night ?
the dog was picked up this morning and they won't let him pick it up till tuesday, because of the bank hols the kennels are closed till tuesday so they have taken it to private boarding

hope it costs him a fortune :(

Usually the pound hold them and there is a charge of £40 to get them back (roughly) round here anyway, and then maybe a daily boarding fee on top of that between £5-10 a day, maybe more for bank hols. I am not sure if they would place him in private boarding with no proof of vaccination (bit of a risk) unless they are saying that so charge him more.

sounds as though he will keep it in now ,thats going to cost a lot  :D

i rang the council and the pound wasn't available as its bank hol ,so they sent these people
http://shaksafehomesandkindness.blogspot.com/

they were great and checked for MC then had a drive around looking for anyone looking for him ,then said they would take him to private boarding kennels until tuesday when he would go to the cat & dog shelter if still no owner found

when the owner turned up we rang the council back (he was kicking off) and they said he was in private kennels but wouldn't say were

they were saying we needed to make a card payment (£43)over the phone for to get the dog back ,but the owner didn't have a credit/debit card
so they took his no and were going to ring him back later so we could get rid of him (owner) but did say on the phone that he had no chance until tuesday of getting dog back

Not sure if your area is the same but round here there is a fine (in addition to kennel fees). Think its £25.

Then Kennel fees are -

1st day or part day: £52.50

2nd day or part day: £66.00

3rd day or part day: £79.50

4th day or part day: £93.00

5th day or part day: £106.50

6th day or part day: £120.00

7th day or part day: £134.00

A friends ESS jumped from his jeep on the way to a walk (probably when turning out the end of his road). Being a gundog had no collar, was picked up immediately as dog warden was passing. Dog was in kennels for 10mins but still cost £77.50 to get back,

So could be an expensive lesson to learn. :)

its going to be very expensive :)
hopefully he will keep it on a lead in future

a shame for your friend though

thing is if he'd had it micro chipped ,they fetch a scanner and scanned him before they put him in the van ,they would have just taken him straight home with a slap on the wrist no doubt ,stupid man

I think you totally did the right thing. Hope he gets a proper lecture about keeping his dog safe and under control. Maybe they will also remind him it is actually the LAW to have a tag on your dog with owners name/address/phone number on it! (obv except working dogs, which this clearly is not) Maybe he could get a fine for that too?

take it to a vets, have it neutered! and then call dog warden and say you found it wandering! In fact send it to a dog warden in a different area (once neutered) and claim you found it. i reckon about 50 miles away should do the trick! That way it may take him a while to find it and neutering will certainly temper its wandering!
