What would you do? Which vet to go to?

BH is lame again (unsuprisingly) and needs to go to be worked up pronto before he goes sound again. But.. I have just moved the horses (this weekend, he's been belting about, hence he is lame again) so do I take them home to my vets, about forty minutes away, more by trailer, or try and get Rossdales to look at him, probably twenty minutes away.

My vets know him and have seen him for initial consultation but obviously Rossdales are Rossdales and are closer.

I know my vet will have no problem referring him if I ask them to/ I can just register as a client with Rossdales (but then they'd want to come out and see him before I took him in?)

I love my vets and I trust them, as much as I trust any vet, but obviously I trust Rossdales plenty too.

Add to this the fact the horse won't load most likely and is a knobber and I just want the ground to open up and swallow him so I don't have to deal with any of it.

If you were me who would you try and take him to? Also worth bearing in mind is that I won't be having surgery on him etc. I'd feel happier telling the vets I know that I'm not interested in going too far with him I think but it's a minor consideration

Why dont you get your old vet to write you a letter to rossdales and just take him there....or just get them to give you his records and just register with them.
Xx

After a very brief wibble that is exactly what I've decided. Just texting my vet now (this sounds terrible that I would message past 9pm but my vet is my friend and she and Andy worked together so she'll just phone him up for me) Who knew I was so well connected eh?

Grr!

I've already been to see Andy once this week (with someone else's horse I hasten to add) I don't want to go back for another three hours of watching horses trot in circles! lol

Thanks F, I am fine. After wailing like a banshee and shouting at OH a bit I feel much better ;)

At least he likes box rest eh?

How are you getting on, I haven't had an update for ages. Did you get to the bottom of the odd lameness in the good leg?

It was a mahooosive abscess. :( However that's much better than what the Vet suspected as we were about to arrange X-rays of the fetlock joint (which was swollen and hot, she didn't respond to hoof testers and went nuts when you flexed that joint *weird*).

My nerves are rather frayed - I'll remember your bansee tip as one of them is bound to do something at some point. :( Blasted fragile creatures.

Tell BH to get better soon from me. :)

O dear. How does she do it?! Still, abscess is good really as it least it can be fixed :) I'm not surprised your nerves aren't great, you've been through the mill!
