If you had £100,000 to start a horsey business of some kind, or invest in some sort of equestrian thing what would you do?

Or, do you beleive in the time honered saying 'Theres no money in horses!'

If I had 100k to invest it certainly wouldn't be in anything horsey.
As the saying goes "Whats the best way to make a million out of horse? Start with 10 million"

I'd start one of those luxury livery yards where they do full liveries for rich people/celebs. I'd also have a separate block for my own horses and take on rescue cases to rehablilitate/rehome. I always want to take home the poor looking horses when I go to the sales, i feel so sorry for them.

I believe that we are all on this earth to help each other. My suggestion would be to make me your newest bestest friend, by me a big lorry and invest in lessons for me with Anky. This would give you great personal satisfaction and you would be guaranteed a place in heaven

I would do a lot more research on importing/exporting horses between Canada and the UK.

There is a market here for Natives and I have contacts in the UK who would deal with that end. Until I have some spare cash though, that project will have to wait, other things to do with our money here first.

I don't think you could get anything for 100k round here, not sure what i'd do, probably a deposit on a house or if it had to be horsey, a yard

I'd stick it in a high interest savings account and make some money off it. I probably wouldn't invest in a horsey business as I am quite happy with my current job/occupation but I would use it towards horsey stuff. I'd probably buy another dressage horse (something with the potential to go PSG) and maybe look at getting a horsebox. I'd then use the other money towards upkeep over the yrs.

I'd get myself a british bred palomino dressage pony that is dead safe as I've got osteoporosis and need something that doesn't require lots of effort to get going due to a heart condition

newer horsebox as mine is now 24 years old and getting past it - just newer - not brand new and not stupidly expensive

newer car as mine is 11 years old and has only another few years left in it - again a nice 2nd hand - not a new car - something around 8k

pay off a loan and a credit card completely

pay someone to do the farm for two weeks and go on a mini-cruise to scandanavia and see stockholm, oslo, copenhagen, etc and also to iceland to ride as I haven't had a 'holiday' of more than 3 days in 27 years

put rest in the bank for a rainy day as pension time looms on the far-to-near horizon

I would it put it towards a house, if I had that kind of money it wouldnt be going on horsey stuff!

If it had too, own livery yard I suppose?

I wouldn't spend much, if any on horses! the majority would be put into a deposit for a buy to let flat

I would start some boring officy type buissness, and then spend the £100,000,000,000 profit on a luxury yard! Acres of rolling meadows to ride through, amazing facilities... -dreams-

Oh, I've also always wanted to own a herd of moor ponies! That actually live on the moor xD And start my own breed...

I'd be patient. I'd invest the original 100k in property, something I already do- but not with 100K! For 100K I would be looking to end up with about 20 properties, all with equity right from day 1. Within about 2 years, or maybe a year or so longer if we get a bit of a property slump, this can make you into a cash millionnaire. Once I'd got that sorted I could buy my dream equestrian property and be able to just run it for my own benefit. I wouldn't need to make a profit and could take in all the waifs and strays that I have to walk away from now.

Where I lived in England you couldn't buy a small paddock for that amount of money. Where I live now, you could buy half a house.....

I'd give at least half to my yard as they have been so good to me, and currently live in a small mobile home (all 3 of them) and have done for years. They deserve a house and it would allow them to fix some things they could never afford to pay for someone to do for them

The rest I would spend on a horsebox and another horse. OOO and a jumping saddle, and maybe a WOW

Could go to somewhere in South Australia and buy two houses with massive 100's acres - no water though. My friends property near Adelaide is worth about £40k, has about 100 acres... but all their water is piped up from the Murray River.

Need to get myself a good amount of savings and a solid business plan behind me first

Though I don't just want to rescue ex racers, but all TBs.

Sadly 100k doesn't go that far these days!
I would turn our former indoor school into a posh american barn style complex with big airy stables rubber lined and with those feed mangers in the walls that swing.
A wash down box with hot shower, a drying area with those infra red heaters, a horse walker and possibly if any money left an equine spa (I doubt it, the one I liked cost £60,000!)
If I didn't have here my money would have bought a yard/land etc so I would have security for my horses.
I doubt I would invest in horse businesses unless it was something like making XC colours, there seems to be a decent return on them and not a lot of premises or space would be needed.
