Hello
What would you do with a yearling heavy horse. hes just under 2 and is already 15.3hh and has had numnah on, walked out in traffic, fully halter trained, rubber bitted as shown in hand, loads and unloads perfectly, baths, picks up feet, can chase him round area and understands his transistions up and stops from canter almost immediately. only vice he has hes quite nappy when he doesnt want to leave the yard when out for a walk sometimes. what else could i do with him? i was told i could long rein him but not lunge him yet. any ideas please? this is my first horse. thanks

He sounds like a wonderful youngster, he's doing really well.
What would I do with him ? I'd kiss his nose and feed him carrots probably.
He's already learning a lot. You could long rein, that'd be fine and introduce him to walking over poles in hand.
Resist having a must do check list and keep it to a let's play check list, he's still a baby.

Well done, you're doing a great job. now where's the photo's ?

awh thank you - i forgot to mention he walks out with boots on and has had his mane pulled and plaited without been tied. i got him 6 month old where he was wild never been handled. LOL.
hes taken alot of hard work and time so thank you for your words!
dont know how to download photos on here wanted to change my profile pic but couldnt work it out.
will do resist the check list i just get excited and want to do more with him as he really enjoys learning. oh never thought of the poles thanks a mil got some poles on the yard x

I would not chase him around the arena as the stopping starting and turning at speed really is not good for those joints of his, personally i would walk him out in hand with another horse a couple of times so he has a couple of postive experiences then i would turn him out in a field for the winter with a few other youngsters and let him be a horse for a good 6 months then start with the walking out again in the spring.

IMO walking out is the best thing you can do as he gets to see the world at a slow and steady pace and avoids all the circles and joint strain

sounds like you're doing a really good job. Long rein but don't lunge. Long reining you can get him out and about seeing things as well as starting to get him used to aids but lunging will be far too much strain on his joints - a heavy horse I wouldn't lunge till at least 4
