I'm having mane problems
crazy.gif

Chex has always had a weird mane
frown.gif
. I hogged it last year to help with his (mild) sweet-itch. Decided I prefered it long so tried to grow it... but now it just looks like this:

The top half is very thick, 5 or 6 inches long and sticks straight up. The bottom half is 3 inches long, very thin and whispy, but at least lies to one side:

His crest makes him look stupid hogged:

But I'm not sure his mane is ever going to grow back *cries*

With mane:

Is it a lost cause? Given he's not a show horse
smirk.gif
it doesn't really matter what it looks like, but I don't want him to look stupid
frown.gif

If he didn't have the crest could he even pull off a hogged mane?

Heeeellllpppppp

. Any ideas/suggestions/advice very welcome

I tried and it just pushed it forward

. I even spent ages trying to make it all lie to the side, but it still just pushed it forward

I'm hoping it will, but I have visions of it being a foot long and still sticking straight up
shocked.gif
its just so thick! I just wish it would all grow back, rather than just the top half

I'm very impatient so I'd probably hog him again!!!
crazy.gif

Not that that's much help to you. I don't think his clip 'style' helped with the crest issue
blush.gif
, it seemed to finish where the 'bulg' started (pls don't get offended with my terminology...I think he's a dude
grin.gif
!!) so maybe a different clip that either finishes behind his ears or a blanket style clip would help???

Lol, I realised that last year after I clipped him, not a clip I'll be repeating
tongue.gif
. I do worry it'll drive me so I'll hog it off again

IMO he looked great in the last pic with a full mane. I believe you will have to be patient for a bit longer, once it folds over (when it's long enough) you can pull and tidy it.

Oh but he's such a handsome dude I think he carried the punk looks so well

Seriously, Be's was a bit "upright" when I got her and yet it's fallen and can now be pulled to one side. I've only had her a matter of months. It'll be fine soon

I had a cob which had a hogged mane when i got her. After about 6 months of letting it grow it was bolt upright! Trust me itll fold over soon!!

We hogged our cob last year then let it grow again. Over the winter we went through a Tina Turner stage, his mane got thick, stuck up, then splayed then, when there was enough weight, started falling to the side. This took about 6 months. So, give it time, it will happen. I also think he looks much nicer with a mane.

It should not be long before it flops over but will be a while before it can be thinned to a proper mane, until then it will look odd all being one length. Patience is a virtue ( I do not possess it...)

Would it help if you thinned the top bit with a tail rake and then plaited it down with some weights - just a suggestion.
