What would you do with youngster

I have made the really tough decision to sell my 3 year old (he is four this year). He was backed and turned away last september. I bought him as a potential show hunter but he has not made the height he is around 16.2 but middleweight.

The problem I have is he is dressage bred (by Catherston Decipher) and that is the career path he should take but with the show horses we tend to start them in a diff way to dressage so I don't know whether to sell him as he is (backed and turned away) or to do more ridden work with him even though may not be correct.... help lol
 
thank you that is roughly what I was thinking....just looking at some of the 4 year olds advertised in the Dressage sections is frightening they all look so advanced!!
 
I would go for re-backing and just making sure he has the basics. I think if people want to see him they would like to see him ridden.

I know i sold a youngster last year. I had backed him and then turned him away then decided to sell him.... when the lady came (who did buy him) she watched me lunge etc and then said "i would like to see him ridden" so i just took the plunge and got back on!! Bit scary but he was a good boy and it all worked out well

. It's just in hindsight i wish i had started working him again.

I dont think people expect them to be going in a "perfect" outline. I think they just want to see the basic walk trot and canter without the horse doing anything really stupid.

Bring him back into work, seems pointless putting all that effort into him to then sell him half started (well from being turned away) in this climate I think it would pay to get him going nicely then sell, that way your ensuring he has a good future, a good home and your making more pennies.
