I have recently started working with a nursing agency and although I chose to do this full time so that I could be very flexible with my shifts and have more time with my horse I have also taken the risk that I may not always get full time hours. This was my first week and I managed to get 60 hours worth of work which is exellent. Problem is that I hardly managed to visit hte yard and my horse is not the forgiving type!! I definately got the cold shoulder tonight!!!!

Currently I am on a very well thought of yard with and outdoor & Indoor school (both lit), Summer riding field, Cross Country course and all year round turnout (although the winter turnout has no grazing). There is excellent hacking in the area. I use Full Livery and the only things I have to worry about are grooming and riding.

However, I keep my shetland on a different yard. There are limited facilites (outdoor school with some hacking) and the yard is not as organised. Although it is full livery (and about £20 a week cheaper) you have to organise feed. It is a 2 minute drive from my house (just across the road) and the YO is lovely. Loves the horses to bits (and they all love her lol)

I am considering moving my horse to this yard.

Have thought about it alot. I know that my horses every mday eed woudl be met at yard 2. He would get to live out over the summer and enjoy hay during the day over winter (currently he is out during the day in winter with very little grazing). I am concerned about the loss of facilities however, despite that fact I have used the Cross country course less than 6 times this year (it is only avaliable for use during specified months).

Aiming to have transport in Janury so I woudl only be limited September - December.

Any thoughts? Do

I too would move to the yard across the road. Working 60 hours per week doesn't leave you much time to ride your horse, so it doesn't matter if you have amazing facilities if you don't/won't get much chance to use them often!

The yard close to home sounds great, both horses at the same yard, lovely owner, arena, more grazing, plus the fact that you'll have transport in just a couple of months. It would be a 'no brainer' for me, I would most definately move.

Thank you so much for just giving me that bit or reassurance to move.

My friend, parents and others I have spoken to have said that I 'have' to move almost. Doesnt make sense to stay.

Oh well off to see the Yo across the road this morning to get things sorted.

Actually looking forward now to organizing feeds etc and having that bit more control over Tylers care.

Is the menage across the road floodlit? If so I would also move your horse there. Even if you spent £10 a week on feed, you're £10 plus petrol money and time better off at that yard, you can and will get used to riding in an outdoor school, and can always save up the money you are saving to go for outings to XC courses when it suits you.
