to make a horse more sellable? If that makes sense. Ive got a 8 yr old PB arab mare to play with, who jumps, schools and hacks at the moment. Shes only just learnt to jump and is proving a genuine natural, her flatwork is improving all the time- beautiful paces and balance.
I was thinking to take her to some shows/fun rides over the next few months, but if its not affiliated, and her results wont be recorded then whats the point except for her own experience?
What Im thinking is that, if all I do for her is out of my own pocket (my own horse is off at the mo, so this is just keeping me occupied) then unless its for my own enjoyment should I pay out and do things on her if its not garanteed to add or bolster her selling price.

Does that make sense?

That doesnt make much sence. She will be worth a lot more money regardless of the fact she isnt affiliated if shes been out and done something. It sounds a lot more impressive if you can say shes done sj, xc ets ets than it does to say that shes just basically been a hack....
 
Ok, I guess I forgot to put in is that if all Im doing it for is the fun and to get to ride and improve her, no monetary gain for me (normally get a cut) , then is her price definatley assured to go up (from bargain basement prices LOL) so that its worth my while- dont want to do things and see her sold for pennies.

Am not used to blank slated horses prices!
 
Are videos a good selling tool then? I want to do a good job on her, not to just get rid of her as soon as, but work her and sell her to someone who wants what shes become.

I think so. Take it this way for example. A 14hh NF gelding, 5yo broken and hacking nicely, popping coloured and natural jumps but no experience, id expect to pay around £1200-£1500 for. But the same horse but has done a bit of sj, xc, hunted etc id be looking at around £2500, maybe more depending on weather its winning and the hieght its jumping.
 
Does she hack alone? Can she live in/out?
How is she to box/clip/shoe?

These are also things buyers will take into consideration.
 
Just make sure she has a good, all round education and does a bit of everything. She's young enough for her next owner to focus more on one particular discipline if they choose.

I would love a horse that: hacks alone and in company, can do a basic dressage test, can jump show and x-country jumps, is good for farrier, vet, dentist and is good to handle on the ground. I wouldn't be so bothered about a competition record if the horse could honestly do most of the above!
