I am thinking about entering my first hunter trial at Prestwold Hall on 9th March. Sometimes Toto can be a bit strong and sometimes throws a cheeky bronc after fences when we xc. I havn't ridden at Prestwold Hall before so not really sure what to expect. Last time I went xc I rode Toto in a cheltenham gag which was fab for when he tried to bronc or put his head down and run off but he didn't like the single joint so am currently in a Myler comfort snaffle. He is going well and did a pc rally in it and was in control. I would do just the clear round class for experience because (I feel wimpish saying this) I think 2ft 6 is a bit much for my first time. I'm only a very petite 13 year old and Toto is a chunky 14.2hh connie cross and not sure if I'll have the brakes... Would you just go for it or wimp out and not go?

I think you should have a XC lesson with a good instructor -start in the snaffle but let them carry the gag and then you can change if needs be. Then ask their advice! There is nothing wimpy about doing the CR round first!

totally agree with spottedCat. I would go for clear round there are plenty more hunter trials that you can do when you are more confident
