Well my boy is 7 and I have done all the grond work for eventing or affiliated dressage but I just have not got the transport or money. I love doing ground wrk with young horses and have sold a few at 5 or 6 and they have gone on to Intermediate or JRN with other riders. My current horse is 17hh so not really JRN material he also has an old injury that may affect performance in the future (although has never been sick or sorry since I bought him). Would it be better to find a professional to compete him or should I sell- I feel that he is wasted at present but he is smashing and I would love to compete him myself...... bit depressing really, what would you do!!!

Depends how expensive it is to get a professional to ride your horse... But sounds like you should keep him, keep doing the ground work and save just to do the few comps you can afford to enjoy yourself

Sounds like you really like him and don't want to part...
Not much help,I guess...Sorry !

why don't you try to find a good local rider who would ride him at events, and you could still have the pleasure of riding him the rest of the time. if he's well-schooled, that's feasible, and wouldn't be as expensive as paying someone to keep him and compete him. where in the country are you?

Thanks I think I had a glass too many last night and was feeling a bit miserable! I couldn't loan him it would have to be all or nothing for me! I am going to struggle on and see what happens- maybe a fairy god mother will turn up with a 3.5 tonne lorry big enough!

If you are good at bringing on youngsters is there anyway you could do a deal with someone locally. Ie a professional or competion yard where you could do a a bit of schooling in exchange for them letting you and your horsie tag along in their lorry to a few events?
