My in laws have a reasonably sweet 15hh cob mare (bit mareish sometimes and will take the mick out of novices) but my father in law has become quite serisouly ill (has been in ICU for 4 weeks) and he will never recover to the point where he will be able to care for her. My MIL is struuggling to cope with the horse but she really adores her and REALLY doesn't want to sell her. The girl she shares a yard with has just moved so she has noone to help and we need to do something pretty urgently. Is this a situation where a rescue centre may help, will they take a healthy horse or is that a burden on their resources? She's not being worked and is putting on weight because of it which is causing us all worry. We're scared to sell her because she has gone from pillar to post all her 11 years and will get herself in trouble in the wrong hands. If we were to loan her, what would you put in a loan agreement? Anyone know someone in Mid-Lincolnshire looking for an immediate loan?

What about a sharer for the moment? Then a loan when you've got yourselves sorted a bit.

Have you tried calling the pony club for a teen who may be able to help with the care & riding for a month or so until you're sorted?

I think it needs to be permament... it's just having the knowledge that she is in the right hands, we always said we'd keep her for life because she has had a really bad time and was quite badly treated, it's taken 18 months to get her to the stage she is at now. If she went to a rescue (bransby, ilph etc) we'd know she would be kept an eye on for ever more. Putting her on loan ourselves means we'd still have some control over what happens to her but I'm not sure where to start with regards to loan agreements etc. Sharing is difficult because my MIL is very specific about how horses should be treated and she won't tolerate someone who doesn't conform to her standards, plus we can't risk having someone unreliable. I'm so confused I don't know what to do!!

PM Silver_Florin. She runs a rescue in Lincolnshire and loans out to approved homes. She may well be able to help you.
