We're at a yard close enough to walk to from our house
we pay £85/month for grazing, stable, jumping padock(unable to be used in winter), Straw and Hay(neither of which are of good quality)
But there have been big differences on the yard and its really uncompfortable, and both myself and my mum are hating it there, we're abit like well why are we paying for the privalage of getting USED by everyone. Also most of the problems are coming from the yard owner's wife.

We have been offered Livery for £65/month, Outdoor School, Hay of really good quality
and we get on really well with everyone especially the Yard Managers who i've known since i was about 5

The only minus about the new yard is its 10 miles away and theres no stabling.
Do you think Being happy on a yard with people to ride with, and traveling for it? is better than Having to ride alone(as my mums leg is smashed since 4 years ago) and being less than a mile away from home.

I personally would pick the new yard, if you feel that you and your mum will be happier there then go for it.
Can your horses cope without a stable?

As the others say it all depends on your horses being happy to winter out. Also what happens if you need a stable due to illness or injury?

If they can live out & there is access to a stable or similar if it's needed then I'd go for it.

I didnt answer your poll as I really am not sure. Your current yard sounds horrible and it is miserable not having anyone to ride with. But the lack of any stable for emergencies would probably put me off the other yard. Also a 20 mile round trip would be an issue - its quite a lot of driving each day! Is there a 3rd yard a bit nearer maybe?

I'd go for the new one if you're horses can live out.

I was on a yard literally just up the road from me but it was FULL of total b*tches, the atmosphere was horrible, and it got to the point where I dreaded going up there

So I think it's much more important to enjoy where you are and the people you're with. You spend too much time and money to have to deal with horrible people.

I moved from a yard with excellent facilties, hacking, loads of grazing to a tiny yard with one school and rubbish grazing. The atmosphere there is amazing, my horse is a totally different horse and my riding has improved 10x over. I definately think the atmosphere more important than distance

Move if you are not happy. Your horse should hopefully be able to cope without stables as there are so many rugs available.

Well they all live out anyway we only feed in the stables :O lol
but Capella has a tendancy to get lami.
the thing is, the grazing at the new yard is much more organised, and there are small padocks available.
we've just spoken to the YO and there will be new stables being built in september and thats £15 extra per week for one stable

i really wanna move, also at my yard im the only person under 35
whereas at the new yard i have friends my age, i know i get on well with them because my RDA pony is kept there so i go over twice a week anyway

There isnt any 3rd yard, everywhere else is either bad facilities ,extremely expensive or even further away

You don't have to choose either if they don't suit you.

Why not give yourself a 3rd option - i.e. neither yards and choose a different one.

Move house nearer the other yard...

sorry, much help really - you sound like you'd be better off at the new yard.

How would you feel if you were suddenly told you couldnt go to the new yard? Disappointed or relieved? Your first feeling should tell you what to do.

I would say go to the new one!! Remember we do this for fun, expensive fun, but still fun!! What's the point in haviing horses if you hate being at the place where they live. I would more for dure, expecially if you wilol have stable by winter. My horses are 22 miles round trip but its worth the journey and you get used to allowing the time for travelling etc.

I really think we might be moving as also part of the reason all the arguments started was because our 25y/o was getting beat up in the feild and the person who's horse it is just told us to stable him 24/7 and for anyone who has an old horse with arthritis this is obviousley not an option.
So bruno isnt happy at the yard either so...

Lets hope we can move and all will be good
