If you were told of a place you could hack out, for x amount of money, but you thought didn't have a license or insurance, would you risk it?
Would you just book in or go to a proper riding school?

Personally I wouldn't hack horses I didn't know without adequate insurance. I'd rather go to a reputable riding school and pay maybe a little more.

Is it considered a business if you accept money? I know it is for paying for trailer or lorry if you give a friend money for doing it.
Or can anyone just offer rides for money?

if you're a member of the BHS you get free rider insurance (think it's the gold package).
so might be worth while joining up, it's not expensive and it would cover you no matter whos horse you ride.
tho i doubt i'd pay to go ride somewhere if it didn't have the right insurance etc.

Yeh. Well my friend took me to see this place - a field not a yard - and I wasn't really impressed with the horses I saw there, by the look of it, it is just someone with horses making some money.
I shall go and look for a yard!

Please be very careful at this sort of establishment - it is really not safe to ride and have lessons at somewhere not registered with the BHS. I know many places have good instructors and great horses but at an unapproved yard that is not always the case

If you learn at a BHS yard you are certain that basic standards regarding safety etc are being met. They will also have adequate insurance cover should the very worst scenario happen.

At this unapproved yard you do not know if the horses are safe (they could be young horses with excitable temperaments), what happens in the event of an accident?

Trust your instinct .. go to a proper BHS yard and you will have a safe and fun learning experience
