What Would You Do?

Well, my horse has a rub on his spine, just under his withers and so was advised by the yard owner to use a polypad. We then got the saddler out and the fit of his saddle is fine but he would use a prolite pasd with a thin numnah in the future. After inspecting the rub today 9about a month after it appeared) it looks as though it is healing and someone suggested to me using some gamgee on it. The problem is I don't want to buy a prolite pad if his rub is better but I don't want the problem to reoccur. Prolites are quite pricey too! Please help and sorry for the rambly post (chocolate muffins if you get this far!)

what it his rug? or a rug that slipped back? or any thing else you've had on him? got any piccies? might help decipher what caused it if not the saddle?

The real question here I feel is, what did cause the rub?
