right heres the situation, currently i live 10 miles from the horses, great hacking, good fencing, school down the road to hire (ok), really good grass, stables there but extra £11 per week £48 per horse, trailer extra £25

I have just started a new job 17 miles away from where i live, in the opposite direction to the horses :-(
However, where i have started work they have a small yard (job is non horsey) loads of grazing, 5 stables, complete diy and my horses would be the only 2 there, big grass jumping paddock and jumps, 'sand' school thats overgrown but they're trying to sort it out, good hacking £40 per month inc stable i can also keep my trailer there free

Now ive written it down it seems obvious. My mare currently has a sharer tho and I would have to stop that as I know the sharer wouldnt travel

If you are going that way 5 days a week, it will more than cover the saving on fuel the extra 2 days of having to go in the other direction. It is a lot cheaper.
But is there any help available if you do need it?

Sounds nice at the place where you work, and it obviously would save time and money, but like Pippi says, if you went on holiday, is there someone there or do you have a friend that could help you if you went on holiday or something? Also - if there are 5 stables, will they be looking at renting the other 3 out, or do you have friends that they possibly might let come to the yard with you?

I'm not sure what sort of job it is but is there a danger that mixing your work with pleasure could mean you are always on call? I mean will you be able to go out and do your horses at 5pm or will there be the "Can you just do this" requests from your employer?

I've done it before (had a horse at work) and the problem wasn't with the financial gains but mixing up work and horses made me feel guilty I wasn't working when I was with the horse. I also lost that escape feeling at the weekend - you know where you want to forget about work? It was also difficult to disagree with my boss when she suggested things for my horse - you know - like "i think you should try this bit' Anyway just food for thought as it made me stop enjoying the horses

they dont seem worried about renting the other stables they dont cost them anything as they own them so dont need the income, the yard is currently empty. theres a few horses that come to stay for a couple of weeks a year but theres an isolation box and we will have our own fields so I dont think visiting horses will be a problem.
I have a couple of friends/parnets! who would/could come over if neccessary or Id probably be able to get a groom in because its a horsey area and is nearer to events than current yard. Security is 100x better a work yard as well.
Only disadvantage I can think of is we have to do all maintanence ourselves whereas atm it is all done (im sure I could rope my OH into that tho!)
Destiny - my job isnt horsey now so I can leave the office at 5 and walk over to the yard, have done horses and work before and totally agree with you it completely takes the fun away

On face value it sounds ideal but a a thought, sometimes these too good to be true yards are and maybe when these people realise how cheap they are renting it at they will introduce others into the yard or increase the costs. Is there anyone to help with chores ? Mixing work and pleasure can be tricky.

A difficult one but I would probably look half way house and hope your sharer can travel a shorter distance.

I would see how the job goes before moving them. In the event things go really well I would move. If your sharer is really dedicated they will get there, somehow. If not, I am sure you would find another suitable sharer.

she is dedicated but doesnt drive. Not to sound horrible, I wouldnt need a sharer if i did move them as i could easily school them both in the jumping field and new job is better paid

its sooo hard! Trying to move house as well all at the same time!!
