Someone i know is buying their daughter a pony (bought she says)....

Its coming this weekend.

Now this woman knows this much about ponies.................................. yup absolutly nothing, apart from what shes heard from me!!

its a 12hh pony, she paid £1150 for it 12yr old.

Now is it not worrying that she knows nothing, her kids know nothing yet they are going to keep it at this stable they are renting on their own!!!

Is this normal?? Only people i've ever know to have horses are horsey ppl, or put the pony on a livery yard or riding school!!

I dont understand how they are even gonna tack it up!!

She has asked me... where do i get a farrier.... where do i buy food for it..... where can i buy a rug.... where can i....

Erghhh its actually annoying too!

Cant help but think poor pony, girls prob wont even want 2 ride it after a few weeks, who knows they've not sat on one so how would they know!?!?!?!

GRRRR!!!

yeah tried that.... didnt work due to cost! might suggest it after a couple weeks when girls need lessons etc.

I just asked her loads of questions! however i think i should get paid a pound for each question i answer!

i would have as little to do with them as possible. otherwise you will end up doing everything for them, tacking up, grooming, taking them out, etc etc

if thats what you want then give them a hand (and probably all your time

) otherwise stay well clear

no ill be staying well clear!!

I;ve already said if it all goes wrong i do not wanna be associated!

I juse dont understand how people can go out and think looking after a pony, will be as easy as looking after a parrot!

Ditto this again! People take and take and blame you when things don't go as they would like.

Stay away unless you see blatant cruelty or danger to the pony! If you do call WHW. It's not worth getting involved

parrots are very complex to keep well!! i would suggest she finds a good freelance instructor and has regular (like twice a week) lessons for the first month. lessons to include basic care essentials and feeding!! then politely explain you dont have the time, tc. suggest a good livery yard with facilities and help on hand in the short term? then run ..................

I'd suggest , if you know anyone, to recommend an instructor who could also teach them the basics of looking after this pony. Also is there a local college that does the BHS Owners Certificate - you could download the info for her.
Then stand back..
