Hypathetically speaking,

If you had a horse, that was old, and lame never to be ridden again, and basically draining your pocket being a lawn mower and you had no cash to get the horse PTS and you had an outstanding vets bill on said horse allready.. .. what would you do?

I would beg, borrow or steal the money to have the horse pts. There is no other option. Bank loan, sell car, Ebay, anything. Contact the local hunt and do the best thing for the horse.

agree with tiny pony......

i personally have, and will always have money set aside for euthanasia.... you neve rknow how old your horse willl be when the time is right,

Well you surely aren't asking if you'd dump him at a charity or have him killed inhumanely so the answer has to be you'd get the money together somehow for him to be PTS kindly.

Yep i agree, credit card, payday loan, borrow, maybe organise something with your vet? im sure that if there is a outstanding bill, and for good of horse, they can add to it? sell tack/rugs etc??

OOORRR if you cannot afford him in general or afford PTS, ask a local charity to help with funds, in exchange for some work...?

i would sell whatever i could or take out a loan and get the horse pts. at least then you won't have to worry about what will happen to it in the future and then you can focus on paying the vet bill, ask the vets about doing a payment plan.

nothing else you can do really.

As long as you work 16+ hrs a week, payday loans uk or quickquid (know this from car dodgy mot experience) will lend you practically anything from £75 to £1500, and if u cannot pay it all back in one go will split it over 3 payments (but u have to miss a payment prior to arranging this) doesnt do your credit rating much good but it will do the best for the horse.....

My car MOT was £650 (shocking i know.....)and between the two i borrow 2 amounts and paid both back over 3 months with no nastyness etc.....

what ever it took to find the money. would contact all charities too see if they would help.

I know this won't be popular but please know when I say 'EVERYTHING' I MEAN IT

If I had done absolutely EVERYTHING and I MEAN EVERYTHING and he/she was suffering then I would leave him/her at a sanctuary with a letter saying please pts and I will send money when I can AND I WOULD!!

Not like someone who bought an old horse to our yard then vanished into thin air

Luckily some soft heart took her on, she now lives a life of luxury and doesn't even have to work for it :D

Take to Potters or nearest slaughterhouse. See 'Meatman'thread.

In the long run it is better to find the money from somewhere now, as if not you are going to keep on paying for him, which if you borrowed some money then you could pay it back with the money you would save from his upkeep. Horrible situation though.

Phone the vet and arrange to PTS. I don;t know about anyone elses vets (although actually I think they may be the same as mine) buut most horse owners I know have accounts with them. Mine have 3 months interest free. They will charge you interest after that time but as long as you make a monthly payment they are reasonably happy.

This is a situation that no caring horse owner should have to think twice about.
