I am planning a hack to the pub tomorrow as hunting is off. Problem is the steep hills in the area, all hills are not in regular use so the snow is still snow rather than ice, there is also a good grass covering under the snow.
So would you ride?

Nope. Apart from the unavoidable build up of ice "stilts" in each hoof, you won't know what you're riding over, ie rocks, rabbit holes, broken glass, who knows. I'd sooner wait rather than risk a broken leg.

While I have no qualms about riding in snow, I live in an area of steep hills, and find that I end up giving up and roughing them off in this weather! Its just not worth the risk on steep hills that may have ice on them. If its really deep snow (ie, 7" and over, then its not so bad, but if its frozen snow, and compressed, or icy, then they slide all over the place.

You could always put knee boots on, or set off on a less steep hill to see if they slip... At this point we are just walking to the pub with the dogs instead!
