What would you do? :(

The chances are this is exactly why he is 8 and unbacked. I wouldn't be too hard on yourself. Yes your heart has ruled your head but you are probably the best thing that has happened to that horse. And even if you do have him pts I would still say that.

I don't know the stud you mean so not sure if it was his breeder who sold him to you? If so she should be ashamed of herself, if any of my homebreds had a problem I would keep them for them to live out their lives with me. It is what you owe them for bringing them into the world in the first place. I am really sorry he is having problems and hope the advice given here can help you to get him right. It sounds like he is lucky enough to have found a great home with you.

Forgot to say...could it be that hes been stuck out in the field for all hes life and you are just now backing him (if you are?) could be that hes unused to bieng worked and lacks muscle/strength to stand up to it? Prehaps he finds it hard on one rein on the lunge because he favours hes other rein and lacks the muscle to work properly yet on that rein? Might explain why he was sound sold from the field but breaking down in work?

There are many possibilities as to why he was left until 8. I do believe now, that she lied when said he was never started although she was very convincing as they often are. My heart did and still does rule my head.*

Yes, in answer to the question if the previous owner bred him, yes she did and I 100% agree she has a lot to answer for. I wasn't happy when I viewed him how he was being kept in the first place.

He is under the care of a physio so that is also an avenue I have gone down. Not because of lameness because this was not an issue when I bought him but I felt It would help him come into work after having spent so long in a field*
