Just looking for some advice really . My friend is possibly going to have to have her gelding put to sleep tomorrow and she doesn't want her other boy to be left on his own but doesn't want to get another either.
She's asked if I can put my 2 in his field as company. I said yes this morning but now I'm having my doubts.
I've already told her they'd have to be fenced off as my gelding is very protective of his girl . My concerns are 1. The grass has just been topped so is fresher than their current field so would have to have them on a tiny strip 2. My friend is the type of person who would treat them and I have my concerns she'd do it even if told not too 3. Her hubby is the type of person who thinks he knows best and will do as he pleases and I can see him being awkward ( we have many disagreements over the years
I want to help her out and I'm not sure what to do for the best

I know its hard when you feel like you should help, but it sounds as if you could be heading for a heap of trouble especially with OH. How easy would it be to move your horses back if it didn't work out? Do you really want the hassle if yours are settled where they are now? I've been stung trying to help people in the past, only do it if you're sure you can easily undo it if necessary. :)

Thankyou both, her field is only a 10 min walk from mine so that's not a problem, and my guys change fields regularly up until now as we've only ever had fields that last a few months at a time so rotate them, they usually settle well in new fields whereas my friends boy doesn't.
I'm still torn about what to do. My biggest worry is the freshly topped grass really. A double row of fencing with a big gap should stop her treating them and make it harder for her oh to interfere with anything

Oh Lurcher! same prob here except it was our aged pony we PTS today and his next door field mate goes pocco locco when the 2 others that graze next door go out hacking together. Our other 2 neds are out of eye shot but in ear shot so have made a turnout paddock 'playpen' next to their grazing for when the others go for their ride but wouldn't want him in with ours.

Hope the matter sorts itself out your friend is lucky to have such a supportive buddy :)
