What would you email back to this Enquiry?

[ QUOTE ]
Just a little point here - my mother is a qualified accountant. She is an excellent speller and is very sharp mathematically. She writes beautiful hand written letters ... however I have received emails from her, and OMG!
shocked.gif
, I was shocked! It sounded like a kid had written it and was VERY short. Some people are just not comfortable with computers, my mother being one of them.

Fair point.....for sure, I know I have made spelling mistakes on here...usually because I am doing my one-finger speed-typing as quickly as poss whilst at work.....

I just meant....it doesnt give a good impression does it....
Oh God, I have just realised how anal I am.... slap me now someone.....

...... i personally wonder why sammie is complaining about spelling and punctuation....you only have to read a few of her posts!

[/ QUOTE ]

Then what was this for?

don't write them off completely at 13 i broke in my own horse and he is now happierly teaching novices. there are capable teenagers out there,

Sammie, you'd be suprised, the capabilties of a person are not always dictated by age.

Ask a few more questions and try not to be so judgemental.

Lol!! No I totally agree with you - it doesn't give out a good impression, and to be perfectly honest, in the past I have binned emails like that ... until I received the one from my mother
grin.gif
, now I reply to them.

I never said anything about the capability of the rider.....but a badly punctuated, poorly spelled e-mail would put me right off, sorry.

[/ QUOTE ]

Not everyone can spell you know?
And not being able to spell doesnt affect the way a person can look after or ride a horse.

I actually find your attitude terrible tbh - i have several close friends that cant spell but to see them ride is amazing.

Sammie - i would email back the clip they want - you never know the girl could be very confident.
Why throw away a possible sale? They may watch the clip and decide he isnt for them anyway.

[/ QUOTE ]

Good - I'm glad for them......as I said, I never called anyones riding into question.....from what I can see it wasn't the 13 year old girl who sent the e-mail, it was her mum....call me a snob if you wish, a highly educated one at that.
Generally, to be able to afford a horse and all its upkeep....a job is useful....spelling helps. Thats my opinion, take offence if you wish.....BTW, how does anyone manage to get through school without learning how to spell and punctuate?

[/ QUOTE ]

My friends all got very good GCSES actually although they suffer from DYSLEXIA.
Hence why their spelling, grammar and punctuation is a problem.

Oh, by the way i went to private school also but didnt feel the need to say how 'highly educated' i am - i never called you a snob either i just feel that you are being unfair - not everyone has had such an obviously gifted upbringing as you have.

You can do one of two things, either just send the video without it sounding like the Spanish inquisition or if your not sure about them, just ignore it.
smile.gif

i emailed asking what experiance her daughter had and also that he can be a handful and nap at times so im just being honist

You could stress that the horse wouldn't be suitable for the average 13 year old as he needs a competent rider but send the video anyway and ask about the girls capabilities, you could also ask if the parent has a video of her daughter riding so that if she does come and view it's less likely to be a complete waste of time.

My S-I-L is a teacher...she is also dyslexic.....but she doesnt spell that crap because she makes an effort......I would expect someone to be at least make an effort if they want to impress you.....there is something called spell-check you know.

BTW....I didn't go to private school, I didnt have a gifted up-bringing.......I just worked damn hard to get my Msc....whilst also working full-time, bringing up 2 kids and having 3 horses on DIY livery.....

Oh...and sammie....don't direct the quote at me.....it was chestnut-mare that put that, not me....

They prob just want to get a good idea of the horse without asking loads and loads of questions, you can tell alot more about a horse from a video that still pictures.
I dont think the email was bad at all, the spelling and punctuation wasn't the best but as people have said e-mails are usually very informal and quickly written.
But to think a 13 year old girl will automaticly be rubbish because of age is a really bad attitude to have.

LOL - do you know what?

I dont care.

Everyone is guilty of a spelling mistake - i just hope whoever sent Sammie the email doesnt happen to come on here and see how she has been ripped apart.

[/ QUOTE ]

You know what? I won't lose any sleep either.....

For all any of us know the 13YO could be ilke one of the young Whittakers, and so what if the parent can't spell?

Sammie can't spell honest and I'm not shitting myself about that.

oh my god, seriously is she reading everything i say or not? because im guessing not!!!

i DIDNT say she way rubbish because shes 13 i just wanted some advice on what to write back as i know what my horse is like and i dont want anyone getting hurt, i NEVER said anything about her being rubbish because shes 13
PLEASE STOP TWISTING THINGS!!!

I would send the video and keep in the back of my mind that it might well be the 13 year old writing the email and trying to buy a horse without mummy knowing anything about it... (as I would have done

).

PMSL.....

..seriously....got a bit out of hand on here.....I have my own opinions regarding first impressions and all that.....but yes, to be fair....the lass could be a brill rider and if her mum is [****] at spelling I guess so what....

....the original question was how/whether to answer the e-mail....and my thoughts were not to bother, the e-mail would have put me off...thats all....and if it were me selling, then I would have lost out on a potential sale (maybe)

It's a bit much to expect a 13year old not to be able to handle him, as I'm guessing you're older than that, and you can't.

Yeah your right i cant handle him and im not saying that i can, like i said i dont want her getting hurt, if they want to come try him there more then welcome to i just wanted some advice on what to email back like i said i didnt want an arquement and a slagging match what has actuly happend! cheers!

QR -

I personally don't see why Sammie has been so slated for this - probably because shes not popular I expect.

I know personally I probably wouldn't humour an enquiry written to me like that if I was selling a very difficult and sensitive horse and I suspect I am not the only one. The text speak and lack of punctuation suggests a lack of effort if nothing else and in all honesty the whole enquiry sounds a bit clueless and more like someone fancies a cheap horse without considering whether it would actually be a good match. Sure the daughter could be the next Whitaker, but I highly doubt it.

Why because riding ability is directly linked to a persons spelling and grammar? Sorry but for me a person's grasp of the english language isn't paramount to me when finding a home for a horse - their ability to care and provide for the ned is..

And plus - there are a few people on this forum who must ride like a sack of [****] if thats the rule we're going on!!

but i wasnt going on about someones spelling and grammar? i was just simply asking what to email back jesus christ if you dont like me then dont post.

I dont think anything about you Sammie lol

What makes you think I am talking to you anyway? The bit on the top of my post which says Re Spiral, might give you a clue to who I was replying to...

(Its Spiral just incase that was too subtle for you)
