What would you expect to get for £2000

If you wanted a 14.2hh pony...

Just interested as am rather out of touch with the current market, wondered what sort of pony you might be looking at; a project, a finished article, something talented with issues, something sensible without... ???

Asking as I know someone looking at a pony priced at this level, I'm not convinced it is a realistic price though. The market is a bit confusing at the moment!
 
Probably a nice type with good potential but a bit green and not been out and about to competition/pony club ect. Good ponies are worth there weight in gold now.

some where between 14 and 14.2 well built, 4yr has been shown in hand, and ridden and been hunting with a kid on a lead rein. hacks alone and in company, pops a jump including ditches, loads/travels well excellent with farrier, will live in or out, stays on her own, good to clip bath etc.

very safe with kiddies.. does need schooling on and more hackign alone.

i paid pennies for her.

i have no idea why she was sold so cheap, it was a private sale. id say keep your eye out.

a friend has a registered 2yr welsh d for sale for 250 quid, for her lines and looks she is going to be a bargin for some one.
 
2k around my way (Scotland) would buy something quite decent.
It would either get you a good temprement fit for a granny to hop on or a talented competition pony, both together costs more.

I paid 3k for my daughters 14.2hh, he was a horror going through the teenage tantrums but she now has a fantastic pony that really thinks before he acts, is verging on bomb proof and is just so much fun.

Also depends on type ?
 
You are unlikely to get a really good made 14.2 pony for £2000 unless possibly something older, ponies of that size tend to hold value, so a younger project or something with an issue most likely although sometimes one persons problem is not a problem for someone else .
 
I paid £2000 for my 14.2hh 14yo gypsy cob mare. She is as safe as houses but still has the cheek to pi$$ about occasionally, just to keep me busy:rolleyes:. She's not a plod, but still safe. She wasn't in any way schooled, or sure she'd ever even seen the inside of an arena before, but she tries her little heart out for me and I wouldn't be without her.
I think it's just a case of keeping your eyes open and search ever website and tack shop ads you can find.

I will be watching this with interest as I will be putting my mare up for sale in the new year and she is 14.2 has loads of potential, but due to my confidence not really done any competing but has 3 lovely paces and a scopey jump although she is spooky and can throw the odd buck when excited. I would love her to go to an older teenager who would enjoy her and was thinking of slightly under 2k for her, but I may be way off the Mark!
 
I paid £1,200 for my approximately 13.3hh/14hh 5 year old native pony. He had been backed and lightly ridden away as a 4 year old, but he was proving too much for his owner so hadn't done much since being ridden away.

For that price he came with an Albion saddle, bridle, rugs and other bits and pieces.

He is still young and green (and sharp!) but is well bred and does have the potential to do well competitively.

He was a steal really - but home was more important than price to his ex owner!
 
I was recently offered a nice 14.2hh 7 year old gelding, no world beater but a lovely pc allrounder type, no vices/health issues - free to good home.

YO has recently taken on another 14 hander - gorgeous 'true' cob, black with 4 white stockings and blaze. 5 year old, no health issues, bit green but safe - £200!

There are some real bargains about - I would want something fairly special for £2k to be honest!
 
interesting i'll be selling a 14"2 welshy in the spring and i was thinking he's worth about 2000 now ,including tack (rubbish but fits well)
lovely flat work just been and won his first intro but still green jumping although has done some small clear rounds
has been a novice ride but he can sometimes lack confedence (hacking alone) so he'd be no good for a complete novice although he has looked after one in the past
good to do everyway i might be of the mark but would certainly not take any less for him as that is what he is worth to me atm as my other horse is currently still recovering from a tendon injury
 
I bought my lush 14.3hh Reg Section D Welsh cob for £1500. He's 6, was broken (but not seen traffic and was "unschooled"), is basically a redundant stallion (now a gelding, I hasten to add), with a big personality, fantastic looks and a pretty laid back nature. I'm very pleased with him! He doesn't have any problems - it's taking quite a time to really get to know him (have had him 4 months) - still early days, but he's the most complex personality I have met! Not in the least bit nasty, but he picks up my frame of mind like a mirror!

If I wanted a 14.2 pony and I had £2000 to spend, I would look at unbroken youngstock and try to buy the best quality animal that I could find in my budget. My preference would be for a weanling but I would consider an older youngster. I would also like to buy from the breeder so that I can meet the Dam and possibly the Sire too.

That's more or less what I did except that he was broken to ride. The price I paid also included a week with this woman who will ride anything (the owner suggested and paid for this himself) to get my horse going again as he hadn't been ridden for ages and then not much before that.
