In the summer I'll be looking to buy a new horse, and I have a rough ballpark of what I need to save up but curious as to what others think I need money wise -
Between 15.2-16.2hh, 6-8yo, mare, any colour but grey, ideally jumping around BE90/100+ or BS BN/discovery +, capable to jump higher.

Don't need advice on the upkeep - have my own land, and owned for past 10 years so it's just the initial outlay.

It's cheaper now than when the season is underway..actually think around the 6-8k mark for something under 16 hands and mares don't seem to be as popular as geldings! You do realise however, you have shot yourself in the foot...you will now end up with a gray mare! Saying "anything but" in the past has meant I nearly always ended up with what I said I did not want! Have a nose on british eventing classifieds to get an idea now as well.

I think you will need a minimum of 6k for a basically correct and sound horse. And then you can start to add the £ from that baseline depending on how fussy you are on type/looks/record/ease of riding etc

Thanks, I say no greys as I already have 2 (both 16 this year) and I feel two greys are enough torture to prep for comps without the need for a third :p I had that budget in mind, but wanted to make sure I wasn't going to end up not having enough to buy the right horse. I'd love another one similar to my horse now, but a little taller and def not grey (shes 15hh conny x tb, and very loyal).
