aged between 6-10, nicely bred, 15.2hh approx
allrounder, established flatwork doing nice prelims, SJ 3ft, XC 3ft, maybe placed at unaff ODE, ready for intro.done all PC/camp, RC activities. sane and uncomplicated, with ability to give rider confidence but also with talent and scope/potential waiting in the wings. 100% in all the usual ways including safe confidence giving hack.

what everyone wants basically, the type hard to find:rolleyes:

thoughts on budget?

Like you say, is the type everyone wants and seems to have set the prices of such skyward!

To get an uncomplicated horse, capable of sailing round an Intro without too much help from the jockey I'd be setting my budget at something between 6 and 10k ish?

I've never paid actual money for a horse so I'm not great at these.........depends on the potential I guess?? When I have finished vet school I'll be looking for something similar and probably be wanting to spend about 4-4.5K.

That may be totally wrong though!

I'm looking for exactly the same, haha! Although a slightly smaller model and have a max budget of 6k. So could be anywhere between 5-10k

I seem to be spending most of my life (well feels like it) searching for sale sites, and haven't seen anything like this below £5-6K.

A friend has been looking for exactly this, with 4K in her pocket and there isn't anything in that budget that truely lives up to the description. A really safe, confidence giving, yet not untalented 15.2hh will sell for 5K+ any day of the week.

Someone posted on here a couple of days ago a 'how much' for her horse which was as you describe but bigger and had been Novice and she was thinking about £10k - £12k for that (I think). Initially when I read your post, I thought about £5k - £7k.

Really? I would have thought a lot more, certainly not less than £8k if the horse is a true confidence giver, ready to go and doesnt have any vices/injuries. That is, if you could even find one advertised, a horse like this is more likely to be sold on through word of mouth I would suspect.

5k if under 10, probably 3-4k if over 10.

My mare Paris was like this, would happily jump a 1.10m SJ course, good xc, not amazing flat but working in an outline in w/t/c, good hack alone, in company, in traffic and easy enough that pretty much anyone could get on her and take her hacking or pop round a course of 3ft ish. She sold for £3800 aged 12.

The three big factors are age, ability and comp record - an 8 year old with BSJA/BE form up to Newcomers or Novice will be easily 8-10k+ - a 12yr old that has done some local comps up to 3ft will realistically be more like 4k.

My newish horse is 16hh (so ok a little bigger than your ideal) nearly 9yo, very nicely bred, but for racing (bought for 100k as a yearling!). Definitely capable of doing good prelims and has done with old owner, has SJed to 3'3 and XCed to 3', done RC activities (inc ODEs) and camp, hoping he still has scope to burn ;) Reasonably uncomplicated but does have some minor ex-racer type quirks (a bit nervy being tied up sometimes, a little spooky) but generally good to do. We paid £4k including two TO rugs, a fly rug, two stable rugs and some bits and bobs like headcollars.

I'm searching around for a horse like this, and I can't seem to find anything like this for less than about £5000 and upwards.

If my 15.2hh 5 y/o (will be 6 then) is doing Intro/PN at the next season (fingers crossed), I'll be wanting about 6-7k, but will have teamchased, hunted etc aswel. Would maybe put her at more, but her one thing is she's very sensitive and needs a quiet rider. :)

15.2hh's a funny height, "too big" (because it's seen as a horse) for PC type children, but too small for your average adult.
