If you were looking for DIY livery, and a yard two miles up the road offered:

20ft x 12ft stable in barn, all separated by grills and facing one another
Unlimited, all year individual turnout
Parking for trailer
Exclusive hacking around 1000 acres of parkland
Hacking via bridlepaths across miles and miles of downland
Lifts to shows if required
Track up a hill for fitness work
40m x 60m outdoor school
Separate lunge arena
No 'cliiqueyness' - mainly competition liveries

What would you expect to pay per month? Hay and straw not included, but available at a very low price.

Please forgive my endless livery questions - I've never done this before so need all the advice I can get!

Hmmmm. They are asking a fair bit more than suggestions here....but based on enquiries I've made at other yards, although more expensive this place has much more to offer.

Righto, that sounds closer to the mark! This place are asking £50 per week, so £200 a month plus hay and straw at discounted rate....

I didnt think it sounded tooooo expensive - before we moved here, we kept her at a friend's yard on 'mate's rates' - no hay or straw, limited turnout, 10ft stable for £100 a month

My god thats so expensive

!! I pay £176 a month for TWO horses that includes:
- AYTO
- very big (outdoor) stables
- 40 x 60m school (other end of farm on their bigger livery yard, about 10 min hack)
- as much hay and straw as I like!

I don't think I would ever be able to afford 2 horses if I moved

!!

ETA: We also have exclusive hacking of about 25 miles around the farm and loads of bridleways, TROT routes and access to the downs....

Blimey Hellspells, that does sound a fair amount! Do you mind me asking what region you are? Prices seem to vary greatly dependent on area....I have decided I want to move to Wales

I think livery is actually quite reasonable down here

And I don't live in hill-billy wales either

I live in the Channel Islands so its pretty expensive - however we do have a floodlit all weather, solarium, hot power shower (for horses) uncover tie up , heated rug dryers all year turnout and loads of storage (but not for my trailer).

Best facitilies on the Island

In all honesty, I don't think it really matters what SOMEONE ELSE would pay... you have to look at whether you can afford the yard, if it provides the facilities and atmosphere that you want and whether it is convinient to you.

Just because someone else is lucky enough to have a similar deal for less (or a worse deal for more) - especially if they live in another part of the country - shouldn't necessarily affect your decision.

The yard sounds lovely to me and very convinient to you, if I could afford to pay what they were asking and if I felt they were resonably competative based upon asking other livery yards in the local area, I would go for it.

Thanks, SWW - thats very good advice actually. I guess I just wanted to know whether it is reasonable given what other people are already paying - as I said, I've never done this before so I really do appreciate all the views I can get! I think my own mind is made up - if things happen as it looks like they may be about to, then this yard will be my first choice. I'm going up to look round in a couple of hours - just have to persuade Mum now!

£30+ My new yard is £25 a week and has an outdoor school under construction, big stables, good storage, good individual grazing (though paddocks slightly smaller than used to), hack around the 120 acre farm, bridleways a short hack away. Not as good as your new place by any stretch... so I would be expecting to pay more.
