14.3/15hh cob mare, 15yo, has slight arthritis in her front legs. Ridden about 3 times a week, hacking/schooling/lunging. Not clipped yet but might give her a blanket/trace clip. Living out 24/7 at the mo but may bring her in at night (if my sharer stays!), her field is quite bare (just dont want to put her in the field with the fairly lush grass as i know she'll eat it all not before too long!!) she does obviously get hay as well, she is a good doer although she's lost a little weight recently.

half scoop of cool mix twice aday... alter as and when you need her to increase/loose weight.. if she comes in i would have her on molichop or hi-fi.. not alot else as she is a good doer.

One of mine that sounds quite similar - He gets, twice a day, a scoop of HiFi Light and about a 1/5 scoop of Dobson & Horrell Leisure Mix (which has raised vitamins and minerals, but designed for resting/low activity horses), plus a chopped up apple. Also hay and grass of course.

Because she's a bit older, I would give her a feed. Obivously keep up the hay. But Id also give her a feed once a day of something basic like Hi-Fi along with some soya oil or a joint supplement (for her athritis - can highly recommend NAF Superflex, brilliant stuff!) and a general allround vit & min supplement since the grass is lacking.

1 of mine who is a bit like yours (ie. older and need to keep calories down) is my 17yo who has slight athritis in her hind legs, yet gets laminitis very easily. She doesn't get any grass - lives in the yard on hay and gets a feed twice a day of Safe & Sound, NAF Superflex, vit & min supplement and soya oil.

I have a lovely old showjumper with slight arthritis, which seemed to be getting progressively worse last season, I put him onto "NoBute", which is liquid devil's claw and totally homeopathic, so can do absolutely no harm! He is now so full of life, and thinks he's about five again!

On the feed front, I'm a great fan of D and H pasture mix, or countrywide Light Mix, with Molichop and a scoop of garlic. All my horses under the age of 16 get this twice a day, with the older boys getting D and H Sixteen Plus instead of Pasture or Light Mix.

Good luck!

I have a 21 year old Section D 15.2, good doer. Out during the day and in at night. In light work now because of the weather but worked pretty much the same as your girl normally. I love Mollichaff Veteran...it's an oat straw based chaff with added vits and mins as well as nettles and mint and herbs, specially made for golden oldies. Very lightly molassed I think. It smells divine and my boy loves it...he has a scoop of that with a half scoop of wet Speedibeet twice a day and he's positively sparkling on it!

I would suggest Hi-Fi lite, maybe with pasture mix/leisure mix depending on the amount of riding you do, and as someone else said Superflex is great stuff, two ponies on my yard are on it because of arthritus, and both are doing well on it!
