I was just wondering what you would feed a 12yr old 15.3hh french trotter x arab, doing this amount of work?

Monday - 40 mins hack, mostly tracks and hills (including a bit of schooling if we go the right way for a field!), or an hours lesson - flat (we starting lessons again and have only had one!!)
Tuseday - day off, or mum walks him out for 15/20mins (no light)
Wednesday - Hack, can be between 1hr and 2hrs30, again tracks and hills, with a few long stretches for gallops.
Thursday - day off, or like tuseday (no light)
Friday - 20mins schooling, can't do longer at the moment - no light!
Saturday - 40 mins hack and then 20mins schooling afterwards.
Sunday - 20 mins on roads (to build confidence) and then about 20 mins comin ghome on tracks, hills.

And does this sound ok? Will be easier once we have moved!! This is a rough guide though as some friday's i can't ride, and sometimes i school instead of hacking....etc!!

thanks

I'm not going to change what he is on, as it seems to work well for him, i was just curious. If we up his work load (include more lessons, and possibly comps then we will think about how he is!!)

I would class this as light work, however you have not said what you are doing on your hacks, schooling etc, this will make a vast difference to what you feed,if you are incorporating fast work into your hacks or if your schooling sessions include alot of canter work and jumping for eg!!
You need to be abit more specific before i could pass comment on feeding(oh and be useful to know what you are feeding at the moment??ALSO is it looking and feeling well??Is it working with plenty of energy??If yes dont change!!)

Sorry that it wasn't complete.

Out hacks are fast, but not stupid. I mean we do walk for a good 10/15 mins before we start doing any trot, canter. But he's a lot easier out on hacks in trot, so if we're on tracks where they are not too stony or hard, i will trot him but not race around, I'm sensible!

At the moment our schooling sessions consist of mainly walk and trot, gettting him bending and working from behind, won't be jumping now unless i have a lesson.

I don't seem to have much of a choice on horse feeds over here, where i am, so we are still feeding him what he was fed when we bought him. A small scoop of Luzerne (a grass based 'mush', looks like suger beet but contains hardly any suger), A hadnful of pony nuts, And a scoop of Fibergy. We don't have any grass hence he has to have hard feed! Also gets a small bail of hay a day. He gets the same in the morning and at night.

Has loads of energy, always willing to work. Has put on a bit of weight, but not too much to worry about, and it's coming off. I don't feel as though i need to change it i was just wondering what everyone would feed!
