Hi a lot of you have seen and commented on my GCSE video (thanks been really helpful) here it is if you havent seen it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZDehAhSnf0

This is the mark scheme so Im wondering if you were the examiner what would you give me? (Go to page 123 and 124)

http://www.edexcel.com/migrationdoc...E-in-PE-Controlled-Assment-Gd-Iss2-211211.pdf

BTW I know I dont have a 2'9 X country course so thats why i added extra stuff to make up for it. I didnt know I needed X country and obv with weather atm and not having a horse I cant get it :/
I know that I am behind the movement some of the time etc but as I still get everything done in decent balance + effectiveness I dont think I'd get marked down for it fingers crossed :D xxx

I would have thought that commentary during tacking up would be useful and interesting ie opening the pony's mouth by gently slotting a finger into the gap blah blah. This is a cavesson nose band you check it is not to tight by inserting x fingers. throatlash inserting a fist, wrikles at corners of mouth showing bit fits properly. this is a numhah put on neck, slide back to lay hairs flat, put on saddle gently, pull numnah up into gullet, tighten girth to x, tighten girth again before mounting?????

Judging from the mark scheme you are a 7-8. You show walk and trot (can't remember if you showed canter or not) without stirrups and you were jumping 2'6 fences. You performed all the movements they named for 7-8 which were mostly school figures except turn on the forehand.

To get to a 9-10, you had to show 2'9 XC, which you didn't have access to, or 3' showjumping, which by my understanding would mean a course. You showed one jump at 3' and your courses were lower so you showed an excellent jumping performance for 7-8 but not for 9-10 yet. Alternatively you could have shown 'very good control in riding figures...reining back, turns on the forehand demonstrating the ability to ride the horse consistently on the bit and ride the horse to collection. Should attempt quarter pirouettes.' You showed a number of school movements with the horse under good control but he was not on the bit or collected at any point and you did not attempt any of the named movements, so that would be something to discuss with your instructor if you want to move up to a 9-10.

I'm not a riding instructor by the way, just good at reading mark schemes! Hope that helps and good luck with your GCSE. Nice horse and you look like you're having a lot of fun with him.

Im doing the turn on the forehand, rein back and lengthening/collection tomorrow and hopefully attempting the pirouette. Only thing is Ive never done it before and it says attempt in trot :S doubt any of the school horses have done it either.

Dont think I couldve done a 3' course as i think we only have 4 wings and then the 2' blocks so I could only have 2 3' jumps max :/ thanks though :) Id still be happy with a 7/8 - wishing id never taken PE ive decided to go down the music or science route instead of sports but still trying to get a good grade in it :) xx

If you've not finished making your video then if suggest demonstrating your knowledge of being on the right diagonal by showing examples of both and identifying the correct one. Really make it clear that you have the knowledge as your teacher is unlikely to know a great deal themselves.
I wouldn't get too hung up on achieving a 10, anything 7 and up will surely make enough of a positive contribution to your grade that you'll do well!

Ok Ill try and do that tomorrow :) think Ill get another untacking video too as I walk behind him which Im sure theyll pull me up on! Thanks x

Just go through that mark scheme and tick off as you demonstrate each activity it asks for (first page of it, before the scoring part). If you can clearly show each of these skills it lists (in the order it lists them) you'll have a very happy PE teacher who can just go 'tick, tick, tick' to your subtitles and corresponding video footage and is likely then to boost you up a mark or two for making their life easier probably lol! ;)

I have just got my grade back for my horse riding GCSE video, im quite lucky to have a pe teacher that has her own horses so i don't have to explain every single thing about my video, i too walked behind my horse while tacking up but the horse bites and i know she won't kick, they didn't mark me down for it so i wouldn't worry about it. What i would do is get rid of the sound completely, as far as i know, you're not supposed to be having a lesson while videoing, you're supposed to do it all on your own, so just get rid of the sound all together and it's good :) I'll pm you my link to my video and what i got for it if you want :)

It isnt being marked by my PE teacher, it gets sent off to a horsey person moderator but Im thinking about putting on a slide on saying about no access to 2'9 x country and that none of the school horses can be ridden on the bit or do pirouettes - as i cant really be marked down just because i dont have my own horse :L My PE teacher said to either have it silent of have music so Im in need of some horsey songs!

Def putting natasha bedingfield Wild horses on but not sure what else yet (got the urge to put Father Ted My lovely horse on! haha, its not quite serious enough) xx

I can't imagine that their horses can't be worked in a decent outline. Do their staff not have lessons on them? No self-respecting riding school should have NO horses capable of doing a basic prelim/novice dressage test. They are only asking for an attempt at walk pirouettes which I would say are fairly basic - it took about 20 minutes for my pony to learn them. Can you not show your instructor the mark scheme especially the 9-10 flatwork stuff? Honestly ANY horse can do that unless it is lame or just being broken in or something.

I wouldn't put music on it.

I also wouldn't mention that none of the school horses can be ridden on the bit because as an examiner I would think that you are saying they can't go on the bit because you can't get them to but maybe someone else could (if that makes sense)

No, the staff dont ride the horses. Ok BombayMix thank you :) Unbalanced - can you tell me about walk pirouettes, Is i said Ive never done them so I wont know what Im looking for when I try , do you have any videos? Thanks x

I am really bad at explaining these things on here! If I were you I would get your instructor to help you because she can give you 'live' feedback on how it is going. In a nutshell, the hindquarters make a tiny circle and the forehand walks a bigger circle around the hindquarters so you are just pushing the shoulders around. As long as you can move the shoulders it is easy. The key thing is to make sure that it is a forwards movement and that you don't stop or worse go backwards, and that you walk forwards out of it.
I don't have any videos of me but if you have a search on youtube (which I just did) there are absolutely loads of videos of people at various stages of training them so you can see what it looks like.
Hope that helps and good luck with your final video. And get that horse in an outline! If he can do extension and collection he can work in an outline I promise you, even a nice long and low outline. Bend your elbows and carry the bit - think about pushing him forwards to the bit not pulling his head down which would have the opposite effect.
Good luck with your final video :)

Sorry if this is hijacking thread but my daughter is just doing her video & is it best to have commentary, subtitles, silent, the original sound or music? She is extremely shy & really doesn't want to talk on it!!

Thank you :D I've just been on another forum with some people who did the same course and on person missed out the pirouette, walk tort canter without stirrups and only jumped a single fence and they still got an 8, so Im feeling abit more confident now :D (Im still going to try and get it all though) Thank you xx

I didn't talk on mine because my voice goes weird when i HAVE to speak properly :o i made it silent with subtitles, i personally wouldn't put any music on it, it gets annoying when you as the moderator is trying to focus on their riding. Good luck to her! :)
