Took the little fella (section A) out again today - he's been quite good all week.

So, we're hacking along and he's having the odd spook at things but then he's only lived here a week so i'll give him that and he can be a t*t at times anyway, then we come across a puddle / flood (it covered most of the road and left a tiny narrow strip of tarmac down the middle).

I've never had any trouble with water, he will (normally) quite happily walk through water that can up to his knees and on Monday we did just that.

He flipped, he was spinning around, trying to gallop off, half threw himself on the floor once. Now, i tried the 'ok, just stand for a minute and we'l have a look' approach and he was having none of it.
So, leg on, words of encouragement, nothing.
And again, nothing.
Spurs in, firm voice, one step forward.
Three steps back.
Spurs on, tap with whip, two steps forward, plant feet.

You get the picture.

So this carried on for a while, bearing in mind i'm in the middle of the road, at this stage i don't care if he goes through it, over it, attempts the verge just as long as we get past it, today preferably.

And then the cars turn up, one coming toward me and one behind me - umm?

Leg on, firm words, encouraging words, tap with whip.

Eventually we got through it and i stood him out of the way, thanked all the cars for waiting and praised the little man (what a t*)

I suppose what my question is, is would you have tried anything else to get him through the flood / puddle?

And, would you have turned around, waited for the cars and started again?
For me, i didn't really see this as an option as we were 1/3 way through and i felt if i turned around and waited at the beginning it really would have taken all day to get through!

Thanks! x

(Leg_end : if you're reading this, he's much better in company i promise)

I would have donen exactly what you did, if you had turned away from it and waited for the cars to go, in his mind he would have won round 1 and possibly been worse at second attemt

I know it can be annoying for cars, but as long as they where not rude to you etc then you done right, there were'nt many that you annoyed by the sound of it anyway.

H does the same sort of thing but a much lesser scale, one day he will go through a puddle, the next day he will skip round the edge - horses do make me laugh !!

Where in Berkshire ae you ?

I would have let the cars pass so I could carry on without pressure...however I would get off and lead my boy through something rather than get things even more worked up...but that is just my horse who I know how to manage in a particular way.

Hey Deb!!
How you doing?

He is DEFINATELY missing Ebony! Was tempted to box him home so she could teach him a few manners!

Glad Eb is back up and running, you really should think about coming down here some time - the lanes are good and there are loads of bridlepaths although we haven't ventured out on them yet - thought we'd get the simple routes sorted first.

Collecting puppy tomorrow - sooo excited, absolutely no idea what we'll call her yet though.

Speak soon, take care, love to all.

Charlie is due on the 15th August, so not long now! Rode again this afternoon - that horse is priceless - nearly eight weeks off and she hasn't put a hoof wrong. Bit boring just walking, but don't want to push it too soon. Send pics of pup when you have them. Ginny was eating ice cubes this morning (don't ask), and my shoe - puppies! Oh and Phil is back in business - he phoned me this morning - i can take my pick now!
