I will be putting my mare up for sale shortly and am thinking of shooting a video to go with her ad. What things would you like to see footage of to show off her good points. She will be sold as a RC/allrounder, suitable for novice if that helps. Obviously walk, trot, canter on both reins and popping a couple of jumps but anything else??

Trying to think of something that would set your video apart from others so

I presume she is good in traffic, you could show that, or with plastic bags being flapped in the school, scary things on the jumps or jumping over a coat over the jump etc. 2 secs with clipping, loading

Thanks, great suggestions, how about with the farrier (he's coming in a couple of weeks so I could film then) or to catch, would anyone be inteersted in that?
Looks like I may have to learn some video editing skills lol

I would put every thing you have said in the advert in the video if that makes sense?
If I was buying that sort especally for a novice I would want to see a bit of flat work and jumping, grid work, fillers, xc, ditches, water ect. Possibly have the horse jumping smaller fences as well to show it will jump them sensibly with a novice.

Don't make it too long, otherwise people get bored. I would just put W/T/C on both reins, and some jumping, maybe with different kinds of jumps. I honestly would probably fast forward a video of a horse being groomed/tacked up/clipped/floated/shod etc. If it was online, I would give up, as my internet connection isn't that good, and it takes a long time to load anything.

perhaps put a quick view to start with so that anyone who has poor connection can get a good but brief glimpse of the most important parts, then go down in importance
but then carry on more in-depth for anyone who wants it. personally if I was after this kind of horse and could view it I would not get bored watching say up to 7 to 10 mins

The last horse I sold was a little 15hh allrounder. A friend kindly spliced together a few short video clips for me.
It included some of the horse warming up for a dressage test, a 13yo jumping him around a short course of jumps and me schooling him XC over ditch/water/banks. The video lasted no longer than about 2 minutes but really did help when selling him. Next time I would probably add on a quick confo clip and possibly a loading clip too. I've still got the youtube link somewhere if you would like to see it?

I'd keep it to under two minutes - I get really bored of sale videos which had a solid 2/3 minutes of a horse just trotting around. I don't need to see more than 10 - 20 seconds in each pace to get an idea of how it goes, perhaps including some transitions or a bit of lateral work if relevant. Then jumping - that should be around the maximum height the horse would normally school or compete at - if the ad says 'competed SJ up to 3ft" then I'd want to see the horse jumping at least 3ft - not just popping over a little crosspole - if you can make it a small course then so much the better.

A very quick video of catching/clipping/loading I might put on the end - but you don't need more than 5 seconds of each thing to get the point across.

Short walk, trot and canter on each rein, and a circle. (Long enough to see if horse is established in each way). A jump over a vertical and spread and ideally finished off with a video of any competition and if necc, finish with some nice pics. I wouldn't be arsed about flappy bags etc. but that's me.

I would like to see a video of her hacking along a fairly busy road, and being passed by a couple of big vehicles (buses, lorries, tractors, etc) Also, a clip of her cantering across an open field out hacking could be useful. Also, maybe include a short clip of you mounting, with her standing quietly to show how laid back she is.
