What would you pay for him?

Long story short, I have stumbled across a horse that I love!

(I have the facilities & financial backing to take it on!)

The question is, is the price right?

I do not want to give you specifics, as it's not my horse to talk about!

BUT!

For a 10yr old, 1.35m showjumper, what would the going rate be?
Very easy to ride (have rode it!) & pretty good flatwork to! He's also been vetted and is sound.

My normal horses don't jump higher than 1.15m, so I have no experience in pricing of a higher jumping horse?

£7.5k and make an offer.

Horse is middle market and heading towards middle years.

He sounds ideal for an amateur or someone like yourself wanting to try bigger tracks.

However if it was me I'd decide what level I wanted to aspire to and then buy an appropriate horse ie if you buy horse whose max is 1.35 and then you want to jump 1.45+ you'll need to go shopping again.

Hi
think I'd want a bit more info. Does he have a BS record and what does it look like? How much mney on his card? Reason for sale? Has he reached his limit or does he have scope to go further? Conformation wise, does he have good conformation and therefore likely to withstand rigours of competing at that level? Any injuries in the past? Is he currently competing and have you seen him in a competition setting? + all the other stuff does he load etc etc.

The middle years part is exactly what I worry about, although a lot of horses around here are 15/16 & still jumping 1.40!

He has jumped 1.40, and 1.65m at a puissance competition, but I just want to jump 1.30m for this year :)

Irish so SJI record! Very good, never more than 4 faults at high level competition!

How much mney on his card?
We havnt got that over here!

Reason for sale?
Owner is getting married and so selling what she can!

Has he reached his limit or does he have scope to go further?
Has jumped 1.40m & 1.65 at a puissance!

Very good confirmation, well built & stocky but athletic

Any injuries in the past?
None, have checked this with farrier & vet!

Is he currently competing and have you seen him in a competition setting?
Yes & Yes, last competition was a 1.30m two weeks ago with a pole in the speed round, very calm but keen!

He seems perfect to me, money wise I just don't want to make a mistake! :)

I'd think he was a lot more than 10k tbh. Good comp record, no quirks, 10 isa good age, fully established but plenty of years left in him and he sounds like he still has potential.
No idea but I think 10k cheap cheap cheap! Id expect much more?!

HaHaHa sounds like a SJer trying to ' big up' the prices.

Ooh its the best I've ever sat on hahahaha. Aren't they all ;)

I know what your saying, but anything else I've enquired about around similar levels (bit better horses) have all been 40k+

A pony club instructor round here wants 50k for his 17h SJ doing 1.30tracks without only 1 clear on it's record!

Depends on the person I suppose! :)

I hope you don't think me rude, but I have seen a happy hacker for sale at £2K, which, same as your example, is not what OP has been asking about :) ;)

Sorry i thought she was asking what we would pay for a horse jumping 135?! I said i know of one for 5k......also know of one that is 85k

£85k for something early in its career with mahoosive potential for big national / international tracks yes absolutely whatever buyer is willing to pay, and yes for that they will pay.

I don't know if it's because I'm an eventing person really, but 10 is hitting his prime in my world... He's clear of needing any 'young horse' babying, but has a good 3/4 years before his age is against and he's made. He's not a project!

I'd expect anywhere between £10k-£30k depending on who he's with, his record and how willing he is to take a joke. If he's less than £10k, I'd be vetting very carefully as I'd imagine there were soundness issues...

That was one thing that worried me slightly, however after looking into a look of valuable horses around here that are competiting at similar levels, all are 13/14 and still being passed on for fair amounts of cash, so I wasn't too worried1

Well he seems to tick all the boxes and horses as straightforward as this at this level aren't easy to find. He'll be quite a lot of money but if you can afford him then it's worth negotiating around a 20% discount but be willing to settle for 10-15% discount with some decent tack thrown in if you can get it. Good luck, I hope you get him and have a ball on him!
