What would you pay for this horse?

nowhere near £5,000 I can tell you that much!! Maybe £2,500 to £3,000. That's just me though- I prefer a sportier cob.

Well YO got one last Autumn, much nicer markings than that and showing good potential for dressage (haven't jumped him yet but know he does - seen photos etc). Same age, same height, utterly bombproof. No issues/vices whatsoever.

He cost £250. And no, I didn't miss out an '0' although I'm sure one could be added if she were to sell him.

He looks nice enough - not sure i would pay that much for him, but if he really is a safe, bombproof hack as described then there is a big demand for them as they are not often sold on.

If he is really safe and bombproof I would think around £3.5k would sell him easily.

If he jumps a little sj/xc course without fuss (no talent needed) I would put it up to £4k if he had a little makeover too.

i used to know this horse and he was sold by owner at 30% of current asking price because he bolts (on hacks and in school). Bombproof?!

Without any showing 'results' or 'bloodlines' - tradtitional cobs... hmm - I have owned one - and it broke my heart to sell him!!

Actually you could buy one like this for about 500quid easily!!!
I would love to know how long he has been in his riddden career!

edited to say - well if he bolts - and i mean truely bolts - I wouldnt pay more than meat money!

p.s. Hows Chico?

No, I wouldn't pay 5k for him. He does sound nice though and maybe someone who needs a confidence giver will snap him up?

Personally I wouldn't, but I know of two ladies in their late 40's early 50's who would pay that for a genuine safe hack.

As usual, it's horses for courses, for some of us he's not worth it, but for others he is.

he used to belong to a 60 year old lady but she had to sell him after he scared her senseless with a series of bolts. He even bolted whilst being ridden by a professional so it wasnt the owners riding style.

I wouldn't pay that for any horse, but then I'm a happy hacker.
Rapidly approaching 60 myself and the cob only being 6, still just
a baby really, what did the 60yr old do with him? What had he experienced
in his 6yrs? My boy was 6yrs old when I got him and 3yrs on he can still scare
me when he's fresh and he's pretty laid back.
A horse I knew in my teens was so dangerous, no-one could ride him, he went to a hill farm and had to work for a change and was a different horse, because he was no longer bored out of his skull, could it be doing dressage etc, has given this cob a purpose in life.
Just a thought

owner used to hack him out and he was ridden professionally once a week. He moves really nicely but is not actually that attractive himself poor lad.

this is a video i made for the owner when she was selling him - shows he has potential but when he was sold to the current seller she was told he was spooky and bolted and even if he has found a 'purpose in life' i still think it's irresponsible to sell him as completely bombproof, it has only been 6 months.

My initial thought was if totally genuine 2.5k (they could certainly market him better than they have). I wonder if they have looked at websites like "safecobs" and thought £££££.

So pleased to hear Chico is on the up - keep us posted - is he due home soon ?.

When you say 'bolts' I take it you mean full on fight or flight fear response as opposed to traditional cob type tanking? In which case I would be worried...
