What would you pay for this horse?

Hi guys,

I'm looking for some advice from the general population, the more responses I get the better - so please do reply with your opinion if you read this! Be honest with your valuation and please provide a reason why you've given the price. I won't take offence to any value or comment given.

I have a horse which if I was to advertise would go a little something like this:

"14yr old 16.1hh well put together Irish Draught Gelding. Competed and won up to Newcomers, brave and careful jumper. Stays in a good rhythmn and can jump from anywhere.

Brave and sensible cross country, good with water, ditches etc.

Established flatwork, would do a nice dressage test if someone wanted to do pure unnaff dressage / event. Has hunted and is good with hounds but can be strong.

Good to box, shoe, clip and has excellent stable manners. Low mileage as only started his career at a later age.

Had sarcoids removed from around his eye, chest and sheath in 2009 so has a scar around his eye. Prefers hacking in company where there is limited traffic. Not a novice ride, has been known to rear."
 
He sounded lovely until you mentioned the sarcoids and rearing but he would make a good bargain horse for someone willing to take a punt. I would say about £950.
 
Depends if the rear is scary or just an occasional "up in the air"
Also as he is good conformation this is a big bonus, as I would not travel to see something with any conformation problem.
He may not be novice ride, but I am not sure what is meant by that, as in my definition no one should compete if they are novice rider.
I would be more likely to answer an ad asking for experienced rider or something like that. Some people who can do a rising trot but are shaky in a canter think about buying a horse these days.
Photos with the rider who competed would help me.
If no sarcoids for6 years or more, I would not be overconcerned, it would however afffect the price, I suspct if there were no scars it would not have been mentioned.
Sorry if I have not been a big help, but he needs topass a5 stage vetting and be half the price of one with no ifs and buts. A lot depends on the "rear"

I wouldn't pay much for what you've just said. Mine had sarcoids when I bought him however back legs and sheath. it worries me as its around tack areas. however my honest opinion on sarcoids is that you have a happy horse and they don't keep growing. Mine is sarcoid free now :)

14 years old means you potentially haven't got many competing seasons left. they however sound like they are genuine, how much is the horse up for or could you loan?
 
I was thinking £4-5K until I got to the sarcoids and then I knocked a few grand off and thought he would be a school master. Then I read the rearing bit and was put off completely sorry. I agree with bonkers what do you mean about "rearing". How high and under what circumstances?
 
A true school master - ie a good basic rider could take him home, pop him on a trailer the next weekend and not disgrace themselves at a novice dressage test or 90cms unaffiliated SJ or sponsored ride.
£5-7k - IF he passes a thorough vetting.
If he isn't great at hacking I'd take £1k off
For the sarcoids - I'd take £2k off
Not novice ride and if the rearing is more than once a year at the start of the hunting season and I'm down of £1k at best.

Sorry if you're selling - if you're buying find something without the sarcoid history - even if the NNR/ rearing doesn't put you off.
