my freind has just bought a thoughrobred mare which was sold to her as an eventer then when it arraived at the farm it had a gel pad in its foot and the girls dad that she bought it off was a farrier so she rang him and asked him why it was there he said it was just because it had stood on a stone and bruised its soal so it was slightly sore on rough ground but then she had a look at its pasport and stuff and it had been lame when it was vetted and there was a number of one of her previous owners so she rang her to find out more about the mare and she asked what she had done with it and thigs then she said oh its got naviclar and cant be jumped so she is going to sell it as a broodmare it is 12 and she doesnt want to take any less than £800 for it. so i was just wondering what you think its worth?

Did she have it vetted when she bought it? I dont know a lot about navicular but both the horses Ive known who had it were PTS eventually? Dont want to pass judgement on this as like I say I dont know a lot about it.
Did she buy it from a dealer or privately? If she bought it recently she should go to trading standards and try and get her money back, sounds like she has been duped!

no she didnt even pick its feet up or anything. i dont know if youve heard of alister nurse? its his daughter that sold it to her but she rang the girl that sold it and she just pretended that she didnt know it had navicular but the girl that had it before her sold it to her as a broodmare. but its not even lame.

a horse with navicular will come sound given rest, but won't stay sound if worked hard on bad ground. Thye are only really sutable for hacking. Also, even if vetted, unless x-rayed it won't show up on a rested horse as it won't show on flexions etc.

I used to go to school with an alison and peter nurse, they hated their initials as once coupled with the surname they are rather rude!!!

I dont think that the passport will have anything about the vetting on it..... although I could be wrong.. but if it was vetted she would have been advised that their was a problem. Although if it was a vetting for a previous buyer then it obviously would not be valid anyway.

If your friend bought it for eventing, then why didnt she have her vetted, and why didnt she look at its feet, I would have thought that they were one of the first things she would have looked at!

Depending on whether navicular is deemed to be genetic, then this will affect the price. I personally wouldnt want to pay much.

I have absolutely no sympathy for your friend I'm afraid!!

I hope she has learnt her lesson- did she not view the mare?
