A 14.2hh irish x skewbald gelding. 12 years old. Has cob in him but is quite fine boned, no feather.
BEFORE ANY ONE REPORTS THE POST......this is not an advert....this is just a post to get some help....IF i do have to sell him so that the ponys welfare is put first.
He is....
Brilliant to hack out in company (odd spook at times but perfect in traffic, you could hack him down the motorway and he wouldnt be bothered about the traffic)
Can napp when hacking alone....as in a stop spin buck combination...but will progress quite quickly with a bit of in hand work or patience and he gets bored of that very quickly.
When hacking out with others they can spook into the back of him, walk right behind etc he never kicks or bites etc.
Perfect to catch, good to groom (but doesnt like a dandy brush...too tickly!)
Good for farrier, brilliant to lead, never strong or silly or bargy on a lead rope.
Can live in or out. Good doer so lives on hay no hard feed.
Loads in a trailer or lorry.
Can be turned out with geldings or mares.
He needs company in the field/stable block.
He is a brilliant jumping pony, steady into and after a fence, jumps literally anything, whether its coloured/rustic/cones/barrels/fillers etc. He can go steady, or faster against the clock.
Done alot of xc (with previous owner) and jumps anything.
Not strong when out with others or jumping.
With some more schooling could do dressage (has done it in the past but not for a while)
Brilliant to ride in the school alone or with others.
Brilliant indoor showjumping.
Gorgeous markings so would do well in coloured classes.

Bad points.
He can have his moments, sometimes when he comes in he can be a bit fidgety in the stable. Never nasty or dangerous etc he would never kick. But sometimes requires some patience.
He fidgets at shows when asked to stand for a while.
Fun rides send him a bit dolally.....he will leap the whole way around, although doesnt get strong, just excited.
He takes a bit of time to settle into a new home.
He is not a childs pony.

Would suit someone wanting a horse to really bond with and spend time working with on the ground and then adressing his napping issues in a calm and gentle way. Or someone who just wants to hack out with a friend and do some schooling/jumping at home etc.

The reason i am asking this is because i have had Paddy for 4 months and in that time we have come on a long way. I could hack him anywhere now alone or in company. We did a fun ride which was awful (so i wouldnt reccomend he does those too often!). He is the most loving pony and i love him to pieces. Jumping wise he is fantastic. But when i bought him, i was looking for a horse that i could come home from work, hack out alone etc and take to the odd show without any hassle at all. I thought this was what i was buying and when i tried him, i hacked him around the block and rode him in the school and we got on fine. However the owner selling basically lied when answering every question that i asked her. Which has meant that i have a great pony, but one that needs more time and more work than i can give (i work 6 full days a week, long hours) and was looking for a horse that i could enjoy and de stress from work, rather than a project, otherwise i would have bought a youngster and brought it on myself.

So for paddys sake, i am thinking of putting him up for sale so that he can go to someone either an older teen who can work with him all summer and who doesnt mind the odd buck/leap etc or someone who has experience with working with horses who can be a bit difficult at times.

But, i have no idea how to price him, i dont want to price him so that he goes to someone to sell on quickly and make a profit as i do not want him passed from pillar to post if i do sell him.

Or if anyone knows of anyone in Devon who may be looking for a pony like this then i would love to hear. I will be vetting any new home as he is a brilliant pony, and could be a brilliant SJ/XC/HT pony for someone who doesnt mind the odd leap/bunny hop etc, but i will make sure he goes to the right home.

So any help on approximate price ranges i would be most gratefull.

I'm not the most knowlegeable person but it sounds if you found him a knowledgeable competition home, maybe for a good kid wanting a 14.2 in an experienced horsey family he might be great!
I was a bit doubtful about selling my horse to a 13/14 year old as I didn't think they would cope, but I remembered what I was like that age and I would get on anything and would jump anything!
So maybe on your ad say no novices or beginners and needs a competition home but I wouldn't write off kids completely.
Maybe about £2000 ish? As I say I'm no expert.. How much did you pay for him? Would he make a BSJA pony or be able to do PC teams?
