This is a question for all the people who thought I was asking too much for a 6 year old nicely made, easy to do, tack up and ride it way 15.3 Anglo . . . (and for the person who offered me a ludicrous £800)

what would YOU pay for a weanling jenny donkey foal of no particular breeding (and not that sparkling an example of the species) ?????
 
I wouldn't. I'm not fond of Donkeys, simply because Berry is terrified of them, so it wouldn't be fair - sorry, there's always one.

You were threatening her with the meatman at the time so they did offer you double what you would get for meat. Or is it ludicrous because they offered you too much?

500 guineas plus VAT which is actually approx the going rate. Donkeys cost a fortune these days.

As I said, donkeys are expensive these days - blame the Donkey Sanctuary. They are very difficult to find and quite sought after. A yearling jenny easily fetches £500.
 
Well I'm not in the UK but here donkeys are going for what I see is ridiculous money. Honestly, I love my donkey, but I wouldn't have paid more than say, $120-180 (£60-90) for her. I was told recently by someone who sells them regularly that now he can easily ask $1000-1300 (£500-650) for them! I was shocked!

The trouble is not what people would pay for other animals, it is that your horse is not selling at the price you want. Which means either she is over-priced, or your ad isn't good enough/in the right place. So either lower the price or redo the ad!

My personal opinion is that now is a rubbish time to be selling something which needs to be bought back into work after a foal - I sure as hell would not want to do the 12 weeks walk work in the winter, and in fact couldn't because of the lack of light.

I also think (not aimed specifically at you alone) that people shoot themselves in the foot by posting about their horses in far too much detail on here, so when it comes to selling them, a quick google, and hey presto, there's a post about a mare you can't wait to be shot of...which would make me very wary. Mind you if you haven't mentioned her name then I guess that part is immaterial!!

I do hope you find her a nice home soon, sounds like it is very stressful for you.
 
I have to say that I have never paid more than "double meat money" for something that is unknown, unwarranted, untried that needs to be brought back into work.
I am not saying that your horse is not worth it at all - but I do think it would be worth you putting her back into work yourself or to send her away to a yard.
Also as spotted cat says it is also not the time of year to be bringing horses back into work.
 
the one at Beauleiu Road Sales in the Forest on thursday went for............................500gns!!!!!!!!!!!!!

a miniture blanket spot went for £300gns...crazy prices!!

a peculiar looking spotted colt went for 220gns.....

and a dun filly shitland with dodgy hindlegs made a staggering 410gns.....
