As I've recently lost all interest in showjuping I'm thinking about entering the scary world of showing! I've been looking at ridden veteran classes and think I would like to have a go early next year. The only thing that I'm not sure about is what actual 'type' my mare is. I've seen some very helpful threads on here with people asking the same thing so wondered if you would be so kind as to help me too? :D

My girl is 17hh and 15 years old (16 in Jan). She has spent her life showjumping as have I (not together though) but I'm bored of it now and we're both very much enjoying flatwork. She has beautiful paces (I'm not biased, its the main reason I bought her) but has struggled to work properly due to incorrect schooling at some point but she is improving massively. Here are some pics to help;

Many thanks in advance :)

Aw she is a sweetie. I am just starting out with a bit of local level showing too so I really don't know much. I am guessing she would be a hack or a riding horse but not sure which - showing peeps on here will tell you. Defo the ridden veteran and you could even do the novice ridden if you and she have never won a showing class before. Good luck :)

I was wondering between riding horse and hunter but I don't know enough about either to decide (I know riding horsed are allowed pretty browbands though :P)

She does jump but I can't get her to relax properly on the flat when we do (think locking on and not listening to a thing I'm trying to tell her).

At local level you could do ridden hunter or riding horse, she's a bit too heavy to be a hack, imo. You could also enter her into WH and of course she will be old enough next year to be a veteran.

Ridden veteran turned out as a riding horse it is then! Actually very excited, its been a while since I've competed and 'meant it'. Just hope the judges like her as much as I do.

Standing still is going amazingly and I'm sure I can get her into a more relaxed way of going judging by the amount of progress we've made in such a short amount of time :)
