this isn't for me!!
An adult friend of mine is seriously looking into getting a horse, she has an idea of what she wants....but imo it's not what she should get and she would probably be out horsing herself
She's not novice, has been riding for 5yrs, but she isn't the most confident person. She is having lessons every weekend at the moment, be isn't learning anything. She's riding a french trotter who has been there done that got the tee-shirt and she has said that it's a bit boring. So when the weather's better and the ground isn't so wet she will be coming to ours to ride either Motty or Hemir, (with some help from an instructor we know) and learning all about stable management...etc..etc!! If she was to get a horse now it would be kept at ours, and then moved closer to her house, or if she waits and gets one later then it will be kept near her house!
She's looking at a big heavy horse atm, but has said that the ones she has ridden in the past are too much for her and she doesn't enjoy it
Now her reason for getting a heavy horse is so that another freind of ours, who is quite big, can ride it, and so that she can also drive it.
But imo she would be better off thinking about what she wants and not being 'kind' for other peoples sakes
she seems to want to please everyone else
She has also said she would like to compete it in low level sj/dressage
so can't decide what she wants!!
So my thought was, what about her getting a big pony - haflinger or fjord?? then she could drive it, and still compete in local sj/dressage. Or even just thinking about what she REALLY wants to get and get herself a nice sensible riding horse!!
She doesn't look silly on ponies like the haflinger even though she is 5ft7 ish!!
something like this : don't worry about writing, it's jsut type that i'm looking at

do you think this sounds sensible, or would you tell me to butt out, and let her chose
or something completly different??
thanks
xx
