What would you think if your dog did this...?

It's happened a couple of times now. Lucy has been eating her dinner, then suddenly she'll stop, walk to the middle of the kitchen, stretch her front legs (like she's bowing), walk forward a bit, stretch again...she'll do this about 5 times, then walk back to her food and carry on eating.
She's just done it again, but this time she didnt seem to be able to stretch - she was stuck in a half-stretch and was shaking quite a lot.

I talked to her and after about 20 seconds, she wagged her tail, shook herself, then walked off back to her dinner and carried on eating.

I would get it checked out by a vet. A whippet of mine did something similar - she always was a greedy madam and used to bolt her food down, so when she started stopping mid-way through her meal I assumed she had over done it! Turned out she had pyometra and had to be spayed - luckily I got her to the vet in plenty of time and she was fine, but never can be too careful!

You've all got me worried now!

She's perfectly normal all other times - it's only when she's eating. Even then, it's not every time she eats.

I'll deffinately give the vet a ring though. Thank you!

I've booked her in to see a vet at 1:40pm tomorrow. Another thing i've noticed is her mouthing a lot at nothing. The other day, we were playing and she suddenly stopped and was mouthing constantly - opening and closing her mouth, sticking her tongue in and out, etc. I thought she might have pulled a tooth out or something, but i couldnt find anything. Since then, she's been doing it quite a lot. All very odd!

Doesn't sound like bloat. That is really scary and the dogs stomach blows up like a balloon in front of you. Tbh if it was bloat she probably would have become far more ill, it is often fatal. Sounds more to me like she is getting a bit of tummy ache/cramp as she eats. Does she gulp her food down?

I would definitely get her checked over by your vet.

ETS. Just read your latest post, maybe she has a sore throat, possibly a foreign body stuck in her throat. Def one for the vet, hopefully your appointment tomorrow will sort it. Will be interested to here how she goes on.

Thank you, i'll let you know.

As for gulping her food down...she's an absolute witch to feed! THE fussiest dog ever! To get her to eat, we have to go and get one of the other animals (cat or rabbit or rat...anything will do!) and put it near her food! Then she'll decide that she'll eat, so that they cant! She takes a bit off the plate, puts it on the floor and then eats it. Either that, or takes a bit, runs to the carpet and eats it there!

We had murder trying to find a food she'd consistantly like. Then when we went to Burghley, we got loads of Pedigree Better By Nature samples and tried her on that. She's loved it, so we've stuck with that since then. But it's still a struggle to get 1/2 a can a day into her. She only weighs 4.7kg.

We've tried taking the food away when she doesnt eat, but she's not bothered.

Oh well, will see what vet says tomorrow. Fingers crossed it's nothing to worry about.

Thanks all.
