I was going to view a mare today but had an email from owner to say she had thrown a shoe and could not be ridden. Mare is a 5 hour roundtrip so I definately need to see her ridden first to avoid wasting mine and owners time.

Owner wanted me to call before I left - tried calling and number provided was incorrect and the one on advert kept going to voicemail. Managed to get hold of owner who said that she could not get farrier out until Friday PM, this seems quite a long time to me? Owner also does not want mare ridden on soft ground without shoe as she may go lame.
Owner has previously changed viewing days too etc.

Considering I am only looking for a horse to light hack it seems abit much!

I am considering visiting local dealer with good reputation instead as it seems like it would be alot easier!

What'd you all think?

I am looking for a section D/ cob x!

She could be genuine but it is alot of money to spend and big investment to make! Also not good impression made considering. Ah well!

She may well be genuine but perhaps its not worth making a five hour round trip in this case - if it was just down the road it would be different.

FWIW, I wouldn't have my mare ridden with a missing shoe under any circumstances as she gets so footsore - but provided she has good regular farrier visits she hasn't lost a shoe in nearly two years so it doesn't mean the horse is going to have terrible feet/shoe problems either.

Thanks all!

Ziggy - I was not insinuating that there was any problems with the mares feet. But as owner is scared that she will go lame - getting the farrier out 5 days later seems a long time considering that there may be sharp objects in the field that may chip her hooves etc.
Not sure if that sounds abit silly though!
