I went to see a horse today, advertised as a lovely safe ride, can be left unridden for weeks and then ridden with no problem.

Arrived at the yard, horse already in horse walker. Taken out, I had a look over it - lovely boy, few war wounds on it from being bitten from other horses, I guess, then told to come back in a few days after it had been ridden a couple of times.

In its defence it only arrived at the yard yesterday after being moved but people buy horses, move them and then ride them either the same day or day after, no probs.

I was really sad as I had gotten all excited and then things went very flat, very quickly.

If someone serious came to see mine I would let them get in from field, groom, tack up, ride it for them and so on. I got put off a bit when I saw it in a horsewalker. Even if it can't go out I was expected so it could have been walked earlier, perhaps.

You went to view a horse and weren't allowed to ride? I wouldn't go back - if it's ready to be ridden in a few days they should have arranged the viewing for a few days later, or delayed advertising. It shows a lack of customer care that could be a worry if things go wrong further down the line.

I would find it rather worrying that they had advertised it without having any knowledge of how it really was, if it is as good as they said in the ad they should have been happy to get on it and show you, or at least have ridden for a while it before you arrived.
As they were supposedly expecting you, I would be very suspicious that there was something not quite right.

I'd say its either a lucky escape or they want to check it out,but then the odds are against you....
Most of the time its never as good as it sounds :-(

So if in doubt, leave it. There are plenty more fish in the sea -or in this case horses that are up for sale.

Thing is, too, I enquired about this horse over a week ago and was told it was at another yard and was going to be moved. It was moved but to yet another yard and not the yard I expected it to be at. When I got there the person I had been dealing with took a back seat and I dealt with someone who I have never met before and had a different manner, nice enough but didn't know anything about me or my situation. I felt as if I wasn't important, just a person who might part with their money.

Both of these would set alarm bells ringing for me, especially seeing as it was advertised as a "lovely safe ride, can be left unridden for weeks and then ridden with no problem."

If so, then why do they need a few days to get it ridden?

Sounds like it could be a bit mental in my opinion, either way it certainly doesn't appear to be what they have advertised.

I'd steer well clear.

It is rather strange they have to move the horse around:confused:, why not take you to the horse and there is still the question of why they could not ride it today if it is that good.
I would not want to do business with people that cannot get organised enough to show a horse properly.
