What would you use a Waterford snaffle for?

Well, you can add me to the uncivilized list . . . we jumped Kali in a Waterford (with a full cheek) . . . he went in a snaffle at home

Ditto.

Our boy competed BS in the same (full cheek Waterford) with his junior jockey (very experienced with beautiful hands!). But he could get strong, is a stallion with a thick neck, jaw. She needed it to get the control and refinement she needed. I've never ridden in one personally.

I can ride him in anything at home (headcollar included!) ;-)

Before you decide that no pain is involved - try this exercise,

You need a friend to help and your Waterford bit.

Spread your thumb and first finger apart and have your friend slide the Waterford back and forth across the piece of skin between your thumb and first finger.

The area between the thumb and forefinger bears no resemblance to the conformation of a horse's mouth. I don't think this exercise is representative of the action of the waterford. It would make more sense to hold it across your forearm which is more similar if you allow for tongue...
