Whatever you do DO NOT LET A HORSE STRAY ONTO YOUR YARD!!!!!

ring the police again and say the stallion has escaped. Get a friend to take him to a safe gateway and tie him to the fence, and get the friend to ring the police saying they have just caught a loose horse and are with him on the side of the road. Surely then the police have to do something?

This happened at my last yard a few months back. 2 horses followed my friend onto the yard when she was hacking back.
We called the police and although we did have to keep ringing and the police actually didn't turn up themselves they did send a horse box and driver to come and pick them up...took about 3/4 hours but no problem and this is in West London.

If this ever does happen again I would advise to contact your council's animal welfare department.

We had two escaped ponies a few years back, didn't get any joy with the police or RSPCA so contacted the council. Within 2-3 hours they had organised somewhere for them to go, had got the gypsy liaison officer on the case (Doncaster is highly populated with gypsy sites) and a guy had come out and nailed notices up informing that the ponies had been seized etc etc. The gypsy liaison officer in the end came up with the goods and the ponies were handed back.

I'm pretty shocked by the people suggesting you let this horse back out again loose. So endangering the horses life and quite possibly that of humans (drivers etc.) is acceptable?! Wow.

Is there any way you could ask your local farmers if they have a paddock you can chuck it in for a few days? Unlikely I know... but worth a shot. Otherwise, is there a part of your yard that you could shut it into to keep it away from yours?

I would suggest that anyone has a similar problem regardding horse welfare matters then phone up Lee Hacket at the BHS H.Q. and explain the position. His telephone number is 01926 707804/01926 707807/01926 707791

I am sure that he will be only to pleased to ask the local BHS Volunteer County Welfare officer to make contact and make arrangements for the horse concerned until the owners are found.
